Sports Report for Wednesday, 10-11-2017

Local Notes:


  • Volleyball: Clinton 3 – Newberry 1… last Thursday the Red Devil volleyball team traveled to Newberry and came home with a 3-1 win… Clinton won the first set 25-19 but Newberry took the set 25-15… Clinton then rebounded to take the next two sets by scores of 25-12 and 27-25 to win the match.
  • Volleyball: Broome 3 – Clinton 0… The news is not as good concerning the volleyball match Monday where the Red Devils hosted the Broome Centurions… Broome took the match 3-0 winning by set scores of 25-21, 25-9 and 25-21… The team will have its final home match of the season today as they host the Woodruff Wolverines.
  • JV VB: Broome 2 – Clinton 0… Before the varsity match on Monday, Broome took a 2-0 win in JV action… Set scores were 26-24 and 25-16.
  • JV Football: Clinton 30 – Mid-Carolina 22… Well I was finally able to get the score of the Clinton JV football game last Thursday against Mid-Carolina and it is good news for Red Devil fans as Clinton took a 30-22 win over Mid-Carolina at Wilder Stadium… Sorry no scoring details.
  • Tennis: Clinton 4 – Newberry 2… Catching up on one last event from last Thursday where the Lady Red Devil tennis team traveled to Newberry to take on the Lady Bulldogs… Good news here as Clinton took a 4-2 win over Newberry… Elizabeth Jones, Mary Catherine Dailey, Gerri Hill and Gracie Spangler all took wins in singles action to lead the Red Devils to victory… For more information on this match, click here.


  • Tennis: Hillcrest 6 – Laurens 1… The Lady Raider tennis team was in action yesterday as they traveled to Hillcrest to take on the Lady Rams… The Rams proved to be just a little too strong for the young Raider team as they took a 6-1 win over the Raiders… The Raiders lone win came on the rackets of Kathleen Horner and Kathryn Tribble who teamed up to form the #1 doubles team and defeated their opponents 8-5… For more details on the match, click here…. The team will be back in action today as they host Wade Hampton and it is the last home match of the season so it will also be Senior Night so make plans to come out and cheer them on if you can.

Laurens Academy:

  • Volleyball… The Crusader volleyball teams closed out their regular season last night at the academy as they hosted Richard Winn… Good news for Crusader fans as the middle school team won 2-0 and the varsity completed the sweep taking a 3-0 win… The Crusades recognized their lone senior Taylor Campbell last night during the match… The Crusaders now move on to the region tournament which starts this Saturday.

Broadcast Notes.

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Friday night when Laurens host Riverside on Senior Night… This will be the Raiders regular season home game… We will start with our Friday Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to KC Hanna about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and Mike Hughes adding his analysis of the game… Coach Rob Sheffield will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set 95.7… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at….   • Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2018 Class… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through October 31st for their second class, the Class of 2018… Those selected will be inducted March 27, 2018 in a 6:30 pm ceremony at The Ridge… But first you the general public must nominate those you think are worthy and fall into the set criteria for inclusion in the hall… For more information about who is in the hall already, criteria those nominated have to meet and other information about the hall, click here… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.comFor any questions about the Laurens County Sports Hall of fame, contact Billy Dunlap at
  • Laurens County Chamber of Commerce Oyster Roast… The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce 10th annual College Football Fan Challenge Oyster Roast which will be on Thursday, November 9th out at the chamber’s office… It features all you can eat and drink and food service starts at 6 pm but the gates open at 5 pm… There will be steamed oysters, low country boil, chicken gumbo, as well as silent and live auctions… Tickets are $40 each and are on sale now… Contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or to purchase tickets, or inquire about sponsorship opportunities!
