Battlefield Hike Saturday Morning

Here on the actual Columbus Day, let’s note a historical place that goes back a long time, but not nearly that far back. It’s Musgrove Mill State Historic Site, on the Enoree River on Highway 56 north of Clinton. This Saturday the historic site is offering a guided hike of the battlefield trail. The battle, which occurred in the early morning hours of August 19, 1780, was a significant patriot victory in the summer of 1780, and was instrumental in leading to the larger victory by patriot forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

This Saturday’s tour will include a ranger-led hike of the 1.3-mile battlefield trail at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site that will take place along the site of the Battle of Musgrove’s Mill two centuries ago.

Space for the Battlefield Tour is limited, and reservations are required in advance. The deadline for reservations is 4 p.m. this Friday, October 13th.

The tour will depart from the park’s visitor center at 10:00 Saturday morning and last approximately 2 hours. Comfortable shoes and a water bottle are recommended.

Admission for, and the hike cost per person is $2.00 or by bringing a nonperishable food item and donate it to the “Hunger Takes No Vacation” Food Drive.
