Local Notes:

LDHS:

  • 9th Grade & JV Broadcast… Join us here tonight as we bring you 9th Grade JV Football action from KC Hanna Stadium as the Raiders host the Mauldin Mavericks in a doubleheader of 9th grade & JV football… We will go live between about 5:30 for the 9th grade game and then the JV game will follow

Middle School Athletics:

  • VB: Newberry 3 – GCO 0… Back on Monday the Gray Court-Owings volleyball team traveled down to Newberry for a region Match… The news is not good for GCO Tiger fans as GCO fell by a score of 3-0… Set scores were 25-14, 25-21 and 25-15… To see how the Tigers have done so far this season, click here.
  • VB: Northside 3 – LMS 2… Also back on Monday the LMS Tigers were in action as they traveled down to Greenwood to take on the Northside Knights in volleyball action… It was a hard fought match whose final score unfortunately I must say that it was Northside who took the 5-3 win… The Tigers won the first set 25-22 but the Knights rebounded to take the second set 26-24… The Tigers came back to take the third set 25-23 but Northside closed out the match taking the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 15-12.
  • VB: Brewer 3 – LMS 0… The team was back in action yesterday as the LMS Tigers hosted the Brewer Bulldogs in volleyball action… Again the scores are not what I like to report as the Bulldogs took a 3-0 win over the Tigers… Set scores were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-11… To see how the Tigers have done so far this season, click here

College Notes:

  • FBS AP Football Poll… In case you missed it when it came out earlier in the week, there was some shakeup in the FBS AP Football Poll after Clemson’s loss to Syracuse… Alabama remains in the top spot but Penn St. moved from #3 to #2 with Clemson’s loss… The balance of the top 5 includes Georgia, TCU and Wisconsin… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Ohio State, Clemson, Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma and Oklahoma State… To see the balance of the top 25, click here.
  • FCS Coaches Poll… The FCS Coaches Poll has the top 5 the same as last week… They are James Maddison, North Dakota State, Jacksonville State, South Dakota and Wofford checking in at #5… Elon at #15 and Western Carolina at #21 are the only other teams close by that made it into the top 25… If you wish to see the entire top 25, click here.

MLB Playoffs Last Night:

  • ALCS Game 4: Yankees 6 – Astros 4… The Yankees tied the series at 2-2 last night as they took a come from behind win defeating the Astros 6-4 in New York… For more information on this game, click here… Game 5 will be this afternoon starting at 5:00 pm and it can be seen on Fox Sports 1.
  • NLCS Game 3: Dodgers 6 – Cubs 1… Yesterday afternoon the LA Dodgers took a 6-1 win over the Cubs in game 3 of the NLCS to move to within one game of punching their ticket to this year’s World Series… For more information on the game, click here… The Cubs must win today if they hope to move on and the two teams will play tonight at 9:00 pm and the game can be seen on TBS.

Broadcast Notes.

  • Raider Football Broadcast… Our next Laurens varsity football broadcast will be this Thursday night when Laurens travels to Mauldin to take on the Mauldin Mavericks… We will start with our Friday (Thursday) Night Insiders program at 6:00 and then go live to Mauldin about 6:35 with Doug Holiday calling the game and Mike Hughes adding his analysis of the game… Coach Rob Sheffield will report from the sideline…Our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set to one of the following depending on which I find is best when I get there: 87.9, 107.7, 92.1 or 104.3… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.
  • 9th Grade & JV Broadcast… Join us here tonight as we bring you 9th Grade JV Football action from KC Hanna Stadium as the Raiders host the Mauldin Mavericks in a doubleheader of 9th grade & JV football… We will go live between about 5:30 for the 9th grade game and then the JV game will follow about 15 minutes after the 9th grade game finishes (about 7:30)… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at mowings@laurenscounty.org….   • Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations for 2018 Class… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through October 31st for their second class, the Class of 2018… Those selected will be inducted March 27, 2018 in a 6:30 pm ceremony at The Ridge… But first you the general public must nominate those you think are worthy and fall into the set criteria for inclusion in the hall… For more information about who is in the hall already, criteria those nominated have to meet and other information about the hall, click here… Nomination forms are available at www.laurenscountysportshalloffame.comFor any questions about the Laurens County Sports Hall of fame, contact Billy Dunlap at bdunlap@golaurens.com
