LDHS:

  • Mauldin 17 – Laurens 15… The Raider football team traveled to Mauldin last night to take on the Mavericks in an important region game that had a great deal to do with where the Raiders will finish in the region and whether they would be at home or on the road for a first round playoff game… The Raiders’ offense sputtered the first 40 minutes or so of the contest as they managed only 3 points in the first half and by the time the fourth quarter rolled around they found themselves trailing 17-3… The Raiders defense kept the Raiders in the game up to that point with an interception and forcing 3 fumbles which they recovered… The Raiders cut the margin to 17-9 when Ryan Campbell scored from 8 yards out with 3:16 left in the game after Will Tinsley had a 37 yard kickoff return to set the Raiders up at the Mauldin 42 where from there Campbell scored 3 plays later but the PAT was missed making it 17-9… On the first play from scrimmage after kickoff the Raiders forced and recovered the third Mauldin fumble of the night with 2:59 left to play and the ball at the 37 yard line… Seven plays later Carado Ray carried the ball in from the 5 yard line to make it 17-15 with 1:09 left to play… The Raiders went for two to tie the game but came up short… The onside kick was recovered by Mauldin at the Raider 49 yard line but the Raiders had two timeouts left and used them wisely as the defense held Mauldin forcing them to punt giving the ball back to the Raiders with 11 seconds left and the ball at the Raider 20 yard line… The Raiders got two plays off before the final horn but just could not cover the distance though they tried mightily… For complete game statistics including a play-by-play narrative of the game, click on the following: 10-19-17 Laurens at Mauldin Game Stats… The Raiders travel to Greenwood next Friday night for the final game of the regular season and will try to beat the Eagles for the third time in as many weeks to improve their playoff position.
