Local Notes:

 LDHS:

  • Raiders Face Northwestern Tonight… The Laurens Raiders (3-7) travel to Rock Hill tonight in first round action in the Class AAAAA playoffs to take on the Northwestern Trojans (6-4)… The Raiders finished fourth in Region II-AAAAA (2-3) while the Trojans finished in a tie for first place in Region IV-AAAAA with Rock Hill and Nation Ford with a region record of 3-1 and won the top spot on the region’s tie breaking procedure… The Raiders are no stranger to Northwestern as the two teams met in the opening round of the Class-AAAA playoffs back in 2015 and the Trojans took a 46-7 win over the Raiders and went on to win the Class-AAAA Championship handily… The Trojans are averaging just over 27 points per game on offense while their defense is allowing just under 25 points per game… The Trojan offensive line is anchored by 6’3, 265 pound Shrine Bowl player Caderrus (KD) Canty.. They also have two players selected for the Touchstone Energy North-South All-Star game and they are defensive lineman Chance Miller (6’1 – 260) and wide receiver Jordan Starkes (6’0 – 185)… The Trojans are being led by interim head coach james Martin who took over after back to back losses to Byrnes (48-14) and Spartanburg (40-14) in mid-September when the former head coach and offensive coordinator were fired… As usual, kick off is at 7:30 pm and please note the team does not play on the campus of Northwestern HS but instead at District 3 Stadium which they share with Rock Hill HS which will be hosting Mauldin tomorrow night… For GPS purposes, the address of the stadium is 210 South Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC… If you would like to see the Trojans schedule and results for this year, click here…  We will go live to District 3 Stadium about 6:40 today for our pregame show and if you are carrying your FM radio, our FM in-stadium transmitter will be set to one of the following depending on which I find is best when I get there: 92.3, 87.9 or 101.5… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com

Pros:

  • Houston 5 – Dodgers 1… In game 7 of the World Series last night out in LA, the Houston Astros scored 2 runs in the first inning and 3 in the second inning as they went on to take a 5-1 win over the Dodgers to claim the MLB World Series Championship for this year… The Astros George Springer had a 2-run homer in the second inning to give him 5 homers in the series tying the record for most homers in the series with the Phillies Chase Utley in 2009 and the Yankees “Mr. October” Reggie Jackson in 1977… For this he was named the Series MVP… For more details and stats on the game, click here.
