PC Notes

  • PC 31 – Gardner-Webb 21… The PC football team ended its season on a positive note last Saturday as they defeated Gardner-Webb 31-21 at Bailey Memorial Stadium… Ben Cheek ad 3 rushing TDs for the Blue Hose in the win… For more details on this game, click here… PC finished the season with a 4-7 overall record and 1-4 in Big South Play.

CHS

  • B: Eastside 64 – Clinton 60… The Red Devil boys’ basketball team opened their season with a close 64-60 loss to eastside last night in the Greenville Tip-Off Tournament… The Red Devils led 19-17 after the first quarter but the Eagles managed to tie the game 29 all at the half… The Eagles then outscored the Red Devils by 2 points in each of the final two quarters to make the final 64-60… After the game Coach Eddie Romines commented “We had 16 team fouls in the 2nd half, they had 4… They shot 27 FTs we shot 11… We played with great effort tonight…  We played well enough to win, the score was tied at 57 late in the game but we came up a little short tonight… Eastside just executed a little better than us late in the game, they have a good team.”… The Red Devils were led by JD Payne with 19 points and also scoring in double-digits were Vilo Boyd – 17 points and Zay Bennett – 12 points… Others scoring for the Red Devils include Zay Hurley – 2 and Jahleed Cook – 3… The Red Devils will play Blue Ridge today at 6:00 pm. at Eastside HS.
  • G:Landrum 67 – CHS 52… Kailey Cheeks had 13 to lead the Red Devils and Savanah Campbell had 11 while DeShante Watts added 10…. The Red Devils will lay Brashier Middle today at 6 pm.

 LDHS

  • B: Laurens 68 – SCA 55… The Raider boys’ team opened up its season with a 68-55 win over the host Spartanburg Christian Academy in the SCA Impact Sports Tournament up in Spartanburg last night giving Coach Walker his first win at the helm of the Raiders… The Raiders trailed 12-7 after the first 8 minutes of play but cut the deficit to just two points at the half as SCA led 29-27 at the half… The Raiders came out of the locker room and outscored the Warriors 20-15 in the third quarter and then went on to take the win… Christian Anderson led the Raiders with 21 points and Josh Greene added 14… Others scoring for the Raiders were: Justin Anderson 9, Dee Foster 7, Ty Foster 7, Carson Todd 5, Conner Dunlap 3 & Ryan Dacre 2… The Raiders take on Dorman tonight at 8:30 at SCA.
  • G: Laurens 68 – BHP 67 (2OT)…  Last night up at BHP the Lady Raiders took on the host Lady Bears in their annual Tip-Off Tournament… In the game, Qua Fortson had a game-high 31 points but none were bigger than the 3-point shot she hit from the right corner with about 1 second left on the clock to lift the Raiders to a 68-67 win in double overtime… The two teams tied 16-16 at the end of the first quarter but the Raiders pulled away and led by small margins the rest of the game leading 43-35 going into the fourth quarter but the Bears came back to tie the game 51-51 and send it into overtime….The end of the first overtime saw the two teams tied 56-56 as both teams had chances to put the game away on free throws but just could not convert… BHP took a 67-65 lead with 18.2 seconds left in the second overtime and Laurens first attempt to take the win was missed and the ball was knocked out of bounds by BHP with 3.3 seconds setting the stage for Fortson’s winning 3-pointer on the inbounds… One other Raider was in double-digits and that was Callie Heisey with 11 points… Others scoring for the Raiders were: Burnside 8, Vance 6, Moore 4, Foggie 2, Espinoza 2, Wiles 2 &Wallace 2… The Raiders return to BHP tonight in the final game of the tournament as they take on region foe Greenwood who defeated Pendleton… Tipp-off is scheduled for 7:30.

Laurens Academy… The LA Crusaders opened their season last night hosting the Wardlaw Patriots…

  • G: LA 54 – Wardlaw 28… The Lady Crusaders pretty much picked up where they left off last year as they took a 54-28 win over the Patriots… They jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never really were threatened… Ruthie Moore led all scorers with 18 and Taylor Campbell was also in double-digits with 11.. Others scoring for the Crusaders were: Williamson 8, Quarles 7, Wu 4, Mitchell 4 and Noffz 2.
  • B: LA 57 – Wardlaw 55… The Crusader boys’ team were also able to pull out a win but they had to go to overtime to do it as they defeated the Patriots 57-55The game was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter but when the fourth quarter started the Crusaders found themselves down 43-38… The Crusaders fought back and tied the score 51-51 at the end of regulation… The Crusaders outscored the Patriots 6-4 in the OT to take the win… Joshua Moore led all scorers with 21 points while Noah Moore and Dawson Foster were also in double-digits with 18 and 12 points respectively… Charlton McCall added 4 points and Wil Tindal 2… The LA varsity teams host Shannon Forest tonight with the girls playing first at 6:00 pm.
  • Middle School… The middle school girls lost to Wardlaw but I do not know the score but I can tell you that the middle school boys defeated Wardlaw 28-12.

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at mowings@laurenscounty.org…. The next meeting will be Wednesday night, December 6 when the Awards banquet will take place…   Danny Morrison former President of the Carolina Panthers will be the featured speaker.   • 18th Annual Laurens Family YMCA Rein Deer Run… The 18th Annual Laurens Family YMCA Rein Deer Run is coming up on Saturday, December 9th… A few things have changed for this year and I want to make sure you are all aware of it… If you click here, you will open a flyer that has registration information, registration fee, sponsor levels and other information including the fact that you need to register by November 17th to avoid late registration fees… You will notice, a parent can complete a registration form AND register his/her children for the fun run on the same form… Also there are discounts for teams… New this year will be inflatables for those children that register for the fun run, a Dress like a Reindeer Costume Contest and a drop box to benefit the Toy Drive for the Laurens City Police….   • Breakfast with Santa… The Laurens family YMCA is also having Breakfast with Santa again this year on Saturday, December 16th… The tickets for this event will again be $5 and everyone entering MUST have a ticket… This covers the cost of breakfast, photo with Santa and lots of games, crafts and activities… Tickets will go sale at the front desk of the YMCA on November 1st… New This Year will be a Merry Market… They will have several small businesses set up “markets” for last minute Christmas gift purchasing… If you or someone you know that may be interested in participating in the Merry Market, please have them contact the YMCA at 984-2626… That is the number to call for more information about the event in total or click here to open up a flyer about the event.
  • Youth Basketball in Laurens… Youth basketball registration through the City of Laurens and the Laurens Family YMCA is now open… If your child is ages 3-6 or 13-15 they will register at the Laurens YMCA and they must do so by 1-2-2017… If you child is ages 7-12 they will register at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation offices located at The Ridge… Registration for these ages closes Dec. 1, 2017… The fee at either facility is $40 per child… Specific information for each league will be given out at the time of registration… If you have any questions you call the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation office at 681-7275 of the Laurens YMCA at 984-2626.
  • Youth Basketball and Cheer at Clinton YMCA… The Clinton Family YMCA is offering open registration for ‘Youth Basketball’ and Cheerleading for six (6) playing divisions and Cheer through the December 12th registration deadline….
