Sports Report for Wednesday, 11-22-2017

Local Notes:


  • B: CHS 62 – Blue Ridge 46… The Clinton Red Devil boys’ basketball team rebounded from the tough loss on Monday night with a 62-46 win over Blue Ridge in the Grenville Tip-Off Tournament … Blue Ridge led at the half 25-21 but the Red Devils came out in the second half and outscored BR to take the win… Zay Bennett had 15 points to lead the Red Devils while Jahleed Cook had 11 and JD Payne 10 to give the Red Devils 3 players in double-digits… The team will play Travelers Rest at 1:30 today at Eastside HS.
  • G: Brashier Middle College Charter 54 – CHS 40… Last night the Lady Red Devils took on the Lady Bengals of BMCC and fell by a score of 54-40 despite leading at the half… Clinton led 19-17 at the half even though the Lady Devils failed to score in the second quarter… However the BSCC came out of the locker room and outscored Clinton 22-11 in the third quarter and then went on to take the win… Savanah Campbell led the Red Devils with 16 points and was the only Clinton player in double-digits… Others scoring for Clinton were: T. Bennett 9, D. Watts 6, A. Abercrombie 4, K. Cheeks 3 and S. Stephens 2.


  • B: Dorman 65 – LDHS 45… Last night in the SCA Impact Tournament Coach Ryan Walker and the Raiders had to have the Dorman Cavaliers the team he came from as assistant to take the top job at Laurens… Well his old team treated the Raiders roughly as they took a 65-45 win over the Raiders… Dorman simply outscored the Raiders 17-10 in the first quarter and then did the same the in every quarter after that to take the win… Christian Anderson was the only Raider in double-digits as he had 19 points… Others who scored for Laurens were: C. Todd 9, J. Greene 5, R. Dacre 5, J. Harris 4, J. Anderson 2 and D. Foster 1… The raiders close out the tournament facing Greer at 3:00 pm today at Spartanburg Christian Academy.
  • G: Greenwood 64 – LDHS 40… The Lady Raider team travelled back to BHP last night to take on region foe Greenwood in the finals of the BHP Tip-Off Tournament and the Eagles were too strong for the Raiders as they took a 64-40 win over the Raiders… From the start the Eagles used their eight and pressure defence to their advantage while the Raiders had a poor night shooting especially from the charity stripe… Calif Heisey led the Raiders in scoring with 13 points and Sandajah Vance had 10 to lead the Raiders…. Other scoring for the Raiders were: L. Allen 6, P. Abrams 3, K. Burnside 2, K. Foggie 2, A. Conway 2, A. Davis 1 and Q. Fortson 1

Laurens Academy… Last night the Crusaders hosted the Shannon Forest Crusaders in a pair of varsity contests… First I will tell you that I don’t have the score of the girls game except to tell you SF scored 18 points but I don’t know how many LA scores I’ll try to get that for you by tomorrow.

  • B: Shannon Forest 57 – LA 37… In the boys game, SF took a 57-37 win over LA… SF took a 16-7 leads at the end of the first quarter and a 23-17 lead into the locker room at the half and the LA Crusaders just could catch up as SF outscored them in every quarter but the last when both teams scored 8 points… Joshua Moore led the LA Crusaders with 16 points… Other scoring for LA were: N. Moore 7, D. Foster 6, scoring 2 points each were C. McCall, L. Kerber, J. Dian and T. Lowry.

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at…. The next meeting will be Wednesday night, December 6 when the Awards banquet will take place…   Danny Morrison former President of the Carolina Panthers will be the featured speaker.   • 18th Annual Laurens Family YMCA Rein Deer Run… The 18th Annual Laurens Family YMCA Rein Deer Run is coming up on Saturday, December 9th… A few things have changed for this year and I want to make sure you are all aware of it… If you click here, you will open a flyer that has registration information, registration fee, sponsor levels and other information including the fact that you need to register by November 17th to avoid late registration fees… You will notice, a parent can complete a registration form AND register his/her children for the fun run on the same form… Also there are discounts for teams… New this year will be inflatables for those children that register for the fun run, a Dress like a Reindeer Costume Contest and a drop box to benefit the Toy Drive for the Laurens City Police….   • Breakfast with Santa… The Laurens family YMCA is also having Breakfast with Santa again this year on Saturday, December 16th… The tickets for this event will again be $5 and everyone entering MUST have a ticket… This covers the cost of breakfast, photo with Santa and lots of games, crafts and activities… Tickets will go sale at the front desk of the YMCA on November 1st… New This Year will be a Merry Market… They will have several small businesses set up “markets” for last minute Christmas gift purchasing… If you or someone you know that may be interested in participating in the Merry Market, please have them contact the YMCA at 984-2626… That is the number to call for more information about the event in total or click here to open up a flyer about the event.
  • Youth Basketball in Laurens… Youth basketball registration through the City of Laurens and the Laurens Family YMCA is now open… If your child is ages 3-6 or 13-15 they will register at the Laurens YMCA and they must do so by 1-2-2017… If you child is ages 7-12 they will register at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation offices located at The Ridge… Registration for these ages closes Dec. 1, 2017… The fee at either facility is $40 per child… Specific information for each league will be given out at the time of registration… If you have any questions you call the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation office at 681-7275 of the Laurens YMCA at 984-2626.
  • Youth Basketball and Cheer at Clinton YMCA… The Clinton Family YMCA is offering open registration for ‘Youth Basketball’ and Cheerleading for six (6) playing divisions and Cheer through the December 12th registration deadline….
