Sports Report for Friday, 11-24-2017

PC Notes :  The PC basketball teams have been busy this past week so let’s do a quick catch up with them…  For more information on each of these games, click on their scores.

  • Men: Back on Monday the Blue Hose traveled to Charlotte, NC and fell to the Forty-Niners by a score of 83-74 despite Davon Bell having a career-high 27 points… The team was back in action yesterday afternoon as they took on Nichols State in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in Baltimore, Md….. PC trailed by as many as 15 and cut into that lead on several occasions only to lose 76-64 dropping their record to 1-5… They continue play in the tournament today taking on Chicago State at noon and it can be seen on ESPN3.
  • Women: Back on Tuesday the women hosted Kennesaw State and fell by a score of 60-51 as the Owls went on a 19-1 run at the end of the game to take the win… The Lady Blue Hose are now 1-4 on the season and they are on the road Sunday taking on the top 20 ranked Duke Blue Devils.

Local Notes:

High School Football Playoffs… The high school football playoffs are tonight as the upper and lower state championships will be decided in each classification… A quick look shoes the following teams meeting for the upper state (U) and lower state (L) titles and the right to go to Columbia next week.

Class AAAAA:

  • U: Gaffney (9-4) at Dorman (11-2) … The two teams met during the regular season with Dorman taking a 42-35 win… Dorman has gone undefeated since losing their first two games of the season Fort Dorchester (35-14) and Northwestern (42-28).
  • L: Fort Dorchester (13-0) at Dutch Fork (11-1)… These teams also met during the regular season with Fort Dorchester taking a 41-25 win in Dutch Forks second game of the season

Class AAAA:

  • U: Greer (12-1) at South Pointe.(13-0)…  Greer’s only loss was to Byrnes in their second game… Both teams played Eastside which Greer defeated 42-7 and South Pointe defeated 48-0
  • L: Berkley (12-1) at Hartsville (12-1)… Both these schools appear to be about evenly matched looking at common opponents.

Class AAA

  • U: Emerald (10-3) at Chapman (13-0)… Looking at records against common opponents, Chapman should be at least a 2 TD favorite but sometimes that football bounces funny.
  • L: Brookland-Cayce (9-4) at Dillon (13-0)… The two teams played 3 common opponents… Dillon defeated them all while B-C lost to two of them

Class AA

  • U: Saluda (12-1) at Abbeville (12-1)… On paper against common opponents, the Panthers appear to be a 2 TD favorite and Abbeville is tough place to play… But you never know.
  • L: Barnwell (11-1) at Bamberg-Ehrhardt (12-1)… These two teams met in the regular season with B-E taking a 21-0 win… Against other common opponents they are pretty evenly matched.

Class A:

  • U: Ridge-Springs-Monetta (9-3) at Lamar (12-0)…  On paper looking at common opponents and margins of victory, Lamar should be 13-0 Saturday morning.
  • L: CE Murray (10-2) at Baptist Hill (9-1)… On paper looking at points scored and given up as well as common opponents, this game should be about even with a slight edge to Baptist Hill.

College Notes:

  • State Bragging Rights Determined Tomorrow Night… Well unless you are an alien who just landed from outer space or an “outsider” such as a Yankee who just moved into the state, I think you all know that the 115th meeting between the Gamecocks and the Tigers will take place tomorrow at 7:30 pm at Williams Brice Stadium and the outcome of the game will give one team’s fans bragging rights for the next 365 days… Clemson has a 3-game winning streak against the Gamecocks and South Carolina would love to hand the 10-1 Tigers their second loss of the season and most likely killing the Tigers chance to play for the National Championship again this year… Now you can stay home and watch it on ESPN or you can join the fun at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters The Ridge as they host the Palmetto Bowl 2017 starting at 4:30 and ending when the game is over… Not only will they have a large TV screen to watch the game but they will have bounce houses, dodge ball and more for the kids..  They will have a grill available that you can use to prepare your own food for your tailgating or purchase some from their concession stand including Chick-fil-A sandwiches… The admission is free only the concessions will cost you… For more information about this, click here… Note to all, don’t try to reach me tomorrow starting at about 7 pm until the game is over unless my house is on fire….LOL
