PC Notes

  • M: PC 74 – UNC-G 72… Last Tuesday night J.C. Younger hit a fade away jumper as time expired to give the Presbyterian College men’s basketball team a dramatic 74-72 come from behind win over the UNC-G Spartans at the Templeton Center… PC trailed 36-34 at the half and the Spartans had double-digit leads at a couple of points in the game… Reggie Dillard led the Blue Hose effort with 22 points and PC is now 3-5 on the season… The Blue Hose host North Carolina A&T in the second of four straight home games tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.

Laurens at CHS JV Basketball

  • G: Clinton 27 – Laurens 9… In girls action the red Devils took a 27-9 win over the raiders… The two teams combined for about as many turnovers as there were points scored… Clinton took a 15-5 lead at the half and then did not allow Laurens to score again until there was 1:45 left in the game in route to the win… Clinton was led by Payton Price who had a game-high 6 points… Others scoring for the red Devils were Dana Kinard 4, Lacola Massey 4, Serenity Baker 4, Tinique Austin 3 & Deveonna Walker 2… The raiders were led by Zinyrea Calhounn with 4 points… also scoring for the Raiders were Doniya Redfield 3 and Destiny Wells 2.
  • B: Laurens 40 – Clinton 21… In the boys’ game, the Raiders turned the tables and took a 40-21 win over the Red Devils… Laurens took a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter but pulled away to a 26-6 lead at the half as the Red Devils just could not buy a shot and this put them into a hole they just could not get out of… The Raiders were led by Dravious Copeland who had a game-high 12 points… Others scoring for the Raiders were Jamir Booker 8, Jackson Mahon 6, Tre Williams 4, Rob Gilliam 2, Jerry Wilson 2, Aiden Pridgen 2, Nigel Owens 2 & Landon Ford 2… The Red Devils were led by Tez Cook and Jordan Davis who had 6 points each… Brandon Campbell, Jalen Ruff and Darien Bailey all had 3 points each.  .

Laurens Academy… Yesterday the Laurens Academy Crusaders hosted the Greenwood Christian Hawks

  • G: LA 57 – GCA 36… In varsity girls action the Crusaders ran their record to 4-0 as they defeated the Hawks 57-36… The Crusaders took a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to 32-14 at the half… The only quarter that the Hawks outscored the Crusaders was the last one as they put 16 on the board to the Crusaders 4… Ruthie Moore led the Crusaders with a game-high 22 points while both Taylor Campbell and Reagan Williamson were in double-digits with 10 points each… Other scoring for the Crusaders were: Jennifer Wu 5 and both Florence Mitchell and A.E. Noffz had 4 each.
  • B: GCA 69 – LA 58… The news is not as good where the boys are concerned as the Hawks took a 69-58 win over the Crusaders… The Hawks came out hot and took a26-16 lead after the first 8 minutes of play… The Crusaders fought back and took a 36-31 lead into the locker room at the half… The Hawks made some adjustment at the half and outscored the Crusaders 24-12 in the third quarter putting the Crusaders in a hole they just could not climb out of… The Crusaders were led by Joshua Moore who had a game-high 22 points… Noah Moore was close behind with 21… Others Crusaders putting points on the board were Dawson Foster 8, Charlton McCall 4 and Will Tindal 3… The Crusaders fall to 2-2 on the young season and will travel to Shannon Forest today.

Sanders hosted Northside MS Wednesday

  • G: Sanders 21 – Northside 18… Amellion Evens was the lead scorer with 10 points…. Aneveah Irby hit a crucial 3 pointer in the 4th period to help seal the victory… Great team effort on defense.

High School Football Finals Pairings Set… well after last Friday night the SCHSL State Championship pairings have been set and both Clinton and Laurens have two teams that were on their schedule this last season in the finals… Last week’s results by classification are as follows

  • Class 5A… Dorman (12-2, defeated Gaffney 14-10) will face Dutch Fork (12-2, defeated Fort Dorchester 24-14)…The game will be at noon tomorrow at Williams Brice Stadium.
  • Class 4A… South Pointe (14-0, defeated Greer 67-21) will face Hartsville (13-1, defeated Berkley 37-20)… The game will be at 6:30 pm tomorrow at Williams Brice Stadium.
  • Class 3A… Chapman (14-0, defeated Emerald 48-14) will face Dillon (14-0, defeated Brookland-Cayce 42-7)… The game will be at 3:00 pm tomorrow at Williams Brice Stadium.
  • Class 2A… Abbeville (13-1, defeated Saluda 20-15) will face Bamberg-Ehrhardt (13-1, defeated Barnwell 23-3)… The game will be at 5:00 pm today at Benedict College.
  • Class A… Lamar (13-0, defeated Ridge Springs-Monetta 35-14) will face Baptist Hill (10-1, defeated CE Murray 54-13)… The game will be at 8:00 pm today at Benedict College

  • Laurens County TD Club… Once again the Laurens County TD Club has a full slate of very interesting speakers lined up for its meetings every other week during the football season out at The Ridge starting at noon on Fridays… Each week the local coaches will recap the games their teams have played since the last meeting and the talk about the game that night… There are several levels of sponsorship available and of course you can just come on the day of the meeting for a small fee… Now for a complete list of speakers and other information about the club, click here… If you still have questions, contact Marlene Owings at 864-833-2716 or by email at…. The next meeting will be Wednesday night, December 6 when the Awards banquet will take place…   Danny Morrison former President of the Carolina Panthers will be the featured speaker. And the club will name the All-County Team, Coach of the Year and Player of the Year. The banquet starts at 7:00 pm.
  • 18th Annual Laurens Family YMCA Rein Deer Run… The 18th Annual Laurens Family YMCA Rein Deer Run is coming up on Saturday, December 9th… A few things have changed for this year and I want to make sure you are all aware of it… If you click here, you will open a flyer that has registration information, registration fee, sponsor levels and other information including the fact that you need to register by November 17th to avoid late registration fees… You will notice, a parent can complete a registration form AND register his/her children for the fun run on the same form… Also there are discounts for teams… New this year will be inflatables for those children that register for the fun run, a Dress like a Reindeer Costume Contest and a drop box to benefit the Toy Drive for the Laurens City Police….   • Breakfast with Santa… The Laurens family YMCA is also having Breakfast with Santa again this year on Saturday, December 16th… The tickets for this event will again be $5 and everyone entering MUST have a ticket… This covers the cost of breakfast, photo with Santa and lots of games, crafts and activities… Tickets will go sale at the front desk of the YMCA on November 1st… New This Year will be a Merry Market… They will have several small businesses set up “markets” for last minute Christmas gift purchasing… If you or someone you know that may be interested in participating in the Merry Market, please have them contact the YMCA at 984-2626… That is the number to call for more information about the event in total or click here to open up a flyer about the event.
  • Youth Basketball in Laurens… Youth basketball registration through the City of Laurens and the Laurens Family YMCA is now open… If your child is ages 3-6 or 13-15 they will register at the Laurens YMCA and they must do so by 1-2-2017… If you child is ages 7-12 they will register at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation offices located at The Ridge… Registration for these ages closes Dec. 1, 2017… The fee at either facility is $40 per child… Specific information for each league will be given out at the time of registration… If you have any questions you call the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation office at 681-7275 of the Laurens YMCA at 984-2626.
  • Youth Basketball and Cheer at Clinton YMCA… The Clinton Family YMCA is offering open registration for ‘Youth Basketball’ and Cheerleading for six (6) playing divisions and Cheer through the December 12th registration deadline….
