Chamber, DHEC Promoting a Clean World

Laurens County’s Chamber of Commerce has for years been active in addressing problems of litter. They have four-pronged effort. In addition to quarterly Saturdays picking up trash from Laurens County Roadways, the Chamber is working with other local entities to encourage law enforcement of litter laws, they’re promoting beautification projects, such as a project presented to Laurens City Council last month, and the Chamber teams with local schools and the Joe Adair Center each year for a “Team Ecology” week targeting elementary students.

With these local efforts in mind, we note that DHEC yesterday announced awards for eight schools in other areas of the state for their efforts to provide opportunities for students to become engaged in real environmental issues that go far beyond the classroom, and hopefully make a lasting impact. The closest of these to our area were schools in Lexington, Dutch Fork and Chapin.
