Domestic Assault of High & Aggravated Nature

A Laurens man has been charged with restricting both airflow and the circulation of blood of his girlfriend, in a domestic incident Tuesday. Laurens City Police arrested 47-year-old James Benjamin Counts of #5 Hansen Circle, Laurens Tuesday and initially served him with a warrant charging 3rd Degree Domestic Violence from an alleged assault back on April 29th of this year.

Yesterday, Laurens Police served Mr. Counts with the charge of Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature for this alleged assault this Tuesday. A warrant citing the investigation of Officer Napier states that on December 5th Mr. Counts committed Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature by showing extreme indifference to the value of human life and by knowingly and intentionally impeding the victim’s normal breathing and circulation of blood, which resulted in great bodily injury or death. The assault reportedly occurred Tuesday in apartment 47 at 5 Hansen Circle in Laurens.

A $5,000 bond was set for last April’s 3rd Degree Domestic Assault charge, but cash or surety bond was set at $60,000 for this week’s charge of Domestic Assault of a High and Aggravated Nature. James Benjamin Counts remains in the Laurens County Detention Center.
