Sports Report for Friday, 12-15-2017

PC Notes:

  • M: PC 104 – Toccoa Falls 35… For the 6th time since it moved to Division I basketball, the PC men’s team scored over 100 points last night as they defeated Taccoa Falls 104-35 at the Templeton Center… PC scored early and often and dominated the Eagles in all statistical categories… JC Younger scored 28 points for the Blue Hose and Ethen Kay was close behind with 27… For more details on the game, click here… PC improves to 6-5, while Toccoa Falls drops to 0-9…. The Blue Hose are next in action Tuesday, Dec. 19, when they travel to Virginia Tech for a 7 p.m., game.
  • Women… The Lady Blue Hose basketball team returns to action Sunday when they host North Carolina Central in a 2:00pm contest at the Templeton Center

CHS

  • Small Business Appreciation Night… Tonight is “Small Business Appreciation Night“” at the CHS games with Ware Shoals…All local businesses are welcome to attend the game wearing a shirt that represents their business.  Bring your office staff!  All business representatives will be asked to come onto the court at halftime of the boy’s game to be recognized…  You can place your business card in the jar at the ticket gate, and the winner of the drawing will win one year of advertisement at Clinton High School up to $250.  The drawing will take place at halftime of the boys’ game…  The student section will have its own theme for your entertainment! … The action starts at 4:30 with boys’ JV game and the varsity teams will follow.

LDHS… I need to do some catching up with the Raider wrestlers who were in action on Wednesday who were taking on Dorman and Nation Ford in a tri-match.

  • Dorman 56 – Laurens 16…. Raiders who took wins on the mats against their opponent were Damien Ladd, Omaury Jalick Dendy, Christopher Jackson, and Andrew Shelton… For complete match details, click here

Middle School Basketball

  • B: GCO 55 – CMS-W 40… Yesterday the Clinton MS white Wildcats traveled to Gray Court-Owings to take on the Tigers…. The game was close at the half as GCO had a 5 point lead as the score stood 26-21 Tigers… Turnovers and cold shooting hurt the Wildcats as the Tigers outscored them 15-6 to stretch their lead… In the fourth quarter the Wildcats attempted a comeback using a full-court press and cut into the lead but the Tigers were able to make some crucial free throws down the stretch and the Wildcats rally came up short as the Tigers took a 55-40 win… GCO’s Tray Hunter led all scorers with 19 points and Lamont Allen also had 12 points for the Tigers… Other scoring for GCO were Isiah Burnside 9, Tyland Lindsey 4, Bee Cheeks & Jarvel Evans 3 each, Jamarius Hunter & Austin Williams 2 each and Zackory LeCroy 1…. The leading scorer was Davis Wilson with 17 points… Other Wildcats putting points on the board were Wil Stewart, Jadden Copeland & Kaiden Gibbs 4 each; Quay Rant, Austin Copeland, RT Corley, Devante Anderson & CY Young 2 eaach while Justin Copeland rounded out the Wildcat scoring with 1 point… GCO goes to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play while the Wildcats fall to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

  • Raider Basketball Broadcast… Join us here Friday, 12-15-17 at 6:00 pm as we bring you the action as the Laurens Raiders host the Emerald Vikings in a girls / boys doubleheader of varsity basketball at the LDHS main gym… And as usual you can hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.
  • Middle School Basketball… On Monday, December 18th the Hickory Tavern Panther boys’ basketball team will travel to Gray Court-Owings to take on their arch rival Tigers… We plan on bringing you all the action starting just about 5:00 pm… You can also hear it live on the internet at www.wlbg.com.

  • Breakfast with Santa… The Laurens family YMCA is also having Breakfast with Santa again this year on Saturday, December 16th… The tickets for this event will again be $5 and everyone entering MUST have a ticket… This covers the cost of breakfast, photo with Santa and lots of games, crafts and activities… Tickets will go sale at the front desk of the YMCA on November 1st… New This Year will be a Merry Market… They will have several small businesses set up “markets” for last minute Christmas gift purchasing… If you or someone you know that may be interested in participating in the Merry Market, please have them contact the YMCA at 984-2626… That is the number to call for more information about the event in total or click here to open up a flyer about the event.
  • Youth Basketball in Laurens… Youth basketball registration through the City of Laurens and the Laurens Family YMCA is now open… If your child is ages 3-6 or 13-15 they will register at the Laurens YMCA and they must do so by 1-2-2017… If you child is ages 7-12 they would have registered at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation offices located at The Ridge… Registration for these ages closed Dec. 1, 2017… The fee at either facility is $40 per child… Specific information for each league will be given out at the time of registration… If you have any questions you call the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation office at 681-7275 of the Laurens YMCA at 984-2626.
  • Christians United Co-ed Basketball… The Laurens Family YMCA is starting a co-ed basketball league for church youth groups ages 13 – high school senior… Each team will have 6 members and play 4 vs. 4 games… The registration fee will be 4$0 and the games will start 1-9-18 and the deadline for registration is 12-30-17… Registration is done through the youth minister at each church… For more information call the Y at 984-2626.
  • Laurens Baseball Winter Camp…  Raider Head Baseball Coach Tori Patterson has announced that there will be a hitting camp at the LDHS Hitting Facility on Saturday, 1-13-18… The camp will run from noon – 3:00 pm and is open to 5th thru 8th graders… In addition to Coach Patterson instructors will be current Raider Hitting Coach Allen Staton and another former Raider baseball player Thomas Jones who plays minor league baseball for the Marlins… The cost of the camp is only $25 and will be paid in cash at the start of the camp… The deadline to register is 1-5-18 to register click on the link below and once you have registered send the form to Coach Patterson by email to: kjpatterson@laurens55.org… The link for the registration form is:
