Local Notes:

LDHS… The Raider varsity basketball teams hosted the Spartanburg Vikings last night and both Raider teams wanted to avenge narrow losses to the Vikings earlier in the month.

  • G: Laurens 54 – Spartanburg 51… In the first game the lady Raiders did avenge the earlier loss as they took a 54-51 win over the Vikings… The Raiders started the game cold as ice as they managed just 2 points in the first quarter while the Vikings scored 13… By the time the buzzer sounded to end the half they had rebounded and led 24-19… The surge in the 2nd quarter was in part triggered by Cali Heisey who scored 10 of her 21 points in the quarter… The two teams played pretty evenly the rest of the way with the lead changing hand several times before the final buzzer sounded with the Raiders up by 3… In addition to Heisey’s 21 points, Qua Fortson was also in double-digits with 15 points… KB Burnside added 5 points, MK Moore 4, Asia Davis 4, Ashanti Conway 2 and Alexus Espinosa 2… The team is now 4-5 on the season and will take a break for Christmas returning to action on December 27th when the host the Raider Rumble… See my sports report next Tuesday for details on that.
  • B: Spartanburg 65 – Laurens 54… Now the news is not as good where the Raider boys’ team is concerned as they failed to avenge the early season by falling to the Vikings again this time by a score of 65-54… The Raiders seemed to play a little out of sync most of the night and lacked that “spark” they seemed to have most of the time this season… The Raiders also had trouble penetrating the Viking zone defense and were taking more shots from further out than usual… Carson Todd led the Raiders with 12 points and Christian Anderson had 11… Dee Foster had 9 points, Josh Greene 8, Justin Anderson 6, J’von Harris 4 and Leonard Williams 4… The Raiders fall to 3-7 on the season and will also return to action on Wednesday, December 27th when they start participation in a tournament at Emerald HS.

Laurens Academy… Last night the Crusader boys’ team and a team of Crusader girls who were NOT juniors or seniors took on the PAC homeschool teams at Laurens Academy.

  • B: PAC 72 – LA 62… In boys’ action, PAC took a hard fought 72-62 win over the Crusaders… PAC took an early 18-12 lead after the first 8 minutes of play and stretched that lead to 57-39 going into the fourth quarter… The Crusaders cut into the PAC lead outscoring them 23-15 but they just could not come all the way back… Joshua Moore had a game-high 25 points to lead the Crusaders and Noah Moore had 20… Will Tindal was also in double digits with 12 points and Charlton McCall had 5 points to close out the Crusader scoring… The Crusaders fall to 4-9 on the season.
  • JVG: LA 25 – PAC 16… Now in the girls’ game before that where the teams did not have juniors of seniors, the Crusaders also prevailed by a score of 25-16… The first half was a low scoring affair as the score stood 6-4 with PAC on top going into the locker room at the half… The Crusaders came out hot in the third quarter and outscored PAC 11-5 in the quarter and then 10-6 in the fourth to take the win… Regan Williamson was the leading scorer for the Crusaders with 11 points and Jennifer Wu was right behind with 10… Blair Quarles had the remaining 4 points for the Crusaders.
