Assault with Handle, Knives Present

A Sunday assault on a Waterloo woman with a wooden tool handle was alleged in charges served yesterday. On Sunday, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office arrested 66-year-old John Wesley Cook of 751 Harris Springs Road, Waterloo. He was served with warrants yesterday charging him with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Possession of Weapons During a Violent Crime and with 1st Offense, Possession of Cocaine.

Warrants state that an investigation of Deputy Hildebrandt indicates that on January 7th one John Wesley Cook intentionally assaulted a victim with a wooden handle of a tool, causing multiple injuries to her face, arm and back. Cook allegedly was knowingly in possession of several knives, a hammer, razor blade and a wooden handle during the commission of a violent crime.

A third warrant states that Cook was also in possession of a small off-white substance in a plastic container that he admitted was crack cocaine.

A $50,000 cash or surety bond was set on the assault charge. John Wesley Cook remained in custody this morning with bonds totaling $70,000 on the three charges.
