Sports Report for Tuesday, 1-9-2018

PC Notes: Both the PC basketball teams were in action last Saturday so let’s catch up on how they did.

  • M: Liberty 60 – PC 48… The PC men’s team traveled to Lynchburg, Va. to take on the Liberty Flames and actually led 22-21 going into the locker room at the half but could not hold the lead as Liberty came back to take a 60-48 win over the Blue Hose… Quite simply they outshot the Blue Hose from the floor 50. 0% to 33.3% in the second half… Reggie Dillard led PC with a game-high 18 points… PC is now 8-8 on the season and 1-2 in league play and will host Campbell tonight at 7 pm in the Templeton Center… For more information on this contest, click here
  • L: Longwood 66 – PC 56… The Lady Blue Hose were also in action this past Saturday as they traveled to Farmville, Va. to take on the Longwood Lancers… Longwood got hot in the first quarter while PC was cold and went on a 12-0 run to put themselves up 16-5 over PC at the end of the first quarter and that was a hole PC just could not climb out of as the Lancers took a 66-56 win… Kacie Hall led PC with a career high and game-high 19 points… For more information on this contest, click here… The Blue Hose fall to 3-10 on the season and 0-2 in Big South play are in action tonight up at High Point.

  • Raider Wrestlers Finish 5th at West-Oak Invitational… The Raider wrestling team was in action last Saturday at the West-Oak Invitational… There were 12 teams at the invitational and the Raiders finished 5th… Some of the Raiders did well finishing in the top 3 of their weight class… Damien Ladd finished first in the 113 lb. class, Caleb Reid 2nd in the 170 lb. class, Christopher Jackson 3rd in the 195 lb. class and also Nathan Hamby finished 3rd in the 285 lb. class… Now there were several other Raiders who finished 7th or better in their class and if you would like to see how each of the Raiders did, click here for complete match details.

College Notes:

  • Alabama 26 – Georgia 23 in OT…  Well if you are any kind of sports fan at all (much less college football) you already know that Alabama took a 26-23 win over Georgia last night in Atlanta to lay claim to this year’s FBS nation Championship… It was a game that saw Alabama come back to tie the game 20 all in the fourth quarter and then blow a chance to win it in regulation as a field goal attempt went wide left as the clock ran out… Georgia had to settle for a 51 yard field goal in the first possession of the overtime and then after a huge quarterback sack, the Tide’s backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who replaced Jalen Hurts in the second half, found DeVonta Smith for a 41-yard touchdown on 2nd-and-26. It was Smith’s only catch of the game… Oh well the rich just seem to get richer… If you missed it or want more details on the game, click here to go to the NCAA football home page where all you want to know you can find links to there.
