Felon with Firearm & Habitual Driving Offender

An early morning traffic stop on North Harper yesterday led to firearm and Habitual Offender charges from Laurens Police. 47-year-old Brian J. Reid of 209 Sherwood Drive, Laurens was initially charged with an Open Container violation at 1:08 yesterday morning in a ticket from Officer Napier. Warrants served later in the day charged Mr. Reid with 3rd or Subsequent Offense of Driving under Suspension and being an Habitual Offender for Driving under Suspension. He was also charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

The Driving under Suspension 3rd Offense and Habitual Offender warrants state that the investigation of Officer Van Pelt indicates Reid was operating a vehicle on the roadway November 11th while his license was suspended, and that a criminal history check revealed he has three prior convictions for Driving under Suspension. A third warrant states that Reid was in possession of a gray and black Titan .25 caliber handgun, discovered during the traffic stop on North Harper early Thursday morning. It states criminal history indicates he is a convicted felon, making the firearm possession unlawful.

Cash or surety bonds were set totaling $2,357 on the Driving under Suspension and Open Container charges, but bond was denied on the Habitual Offender and Felon in Possession of a Firearm charges. Brian J. Reid remained in the Laurens County Detention Center.
