Money Arrives for Heating, Rent Assistance

The GLEAMNS Human Recourses Commission this week announced that they have acquired another Block Grant to assist people with paying their heating bills, and those who are about to be evicted for failure to pay rent. A release noted that all customers can now receive services from the program twice a year. The funds can be used for air conditioning in the summer, as well as heating in the winter.

In an interview heard on WLBG this morning, Case Manager Beaneatha Williams said that people need to call before coming by, so they can learn what they need to bring, based on their situation. People needing help should call 984-5123 to inquire about assistance.

Case Manager Amber Drummond said that the money will be allocated to qualified people while funds from this most recent Block Grant last. GLEAMNS serves the seven-county Upper Savannah area. Their Laurens County Office is in Laurens on West Laurens Street, across from the Laurens County Advertiser.
