Sports Report for Friday, 1-12-2018

PC Notes:

  • W: HP 81 – PC 55… Last Tuesday night the Lady Blue Hose traveled up to High Point to take on the Panthers and fell by a score of 81-55… The Panthers went on a 22-3 run at the end of the first quarter putting the Blue Hose in a hole they just could not climb out of… Kiara Jackson led PC with 10 points… For more information on this contest, click here… PC is now 3-11 overall and 0-3 in Big south play… The team is back in action tomorrow as they host the Campbell Camels in a 2 pm contest at the Templeton Center.
  • M: Campbell 83 – PC 79… The PC men’s team was also in action last Tuesday as they hosted the Campbell Camels… It was a tough loss for the Blue Hose as they led late in the game but the Camels outscored them 21-10 over the last 6 minutes to take an 83-79 win… Davon Bell led PC with 26 points…  For more information on this contest, click here. … PC’s record drops to 8-9 on the season and 1-3 in league play…. The team travels to UNC-Ashville for a 7 pm contest.

Local Notes:


  • Friday Night is YMCA night and Principal’s Honor Roll Night.  The YMCA girls’ basketball players will play during half time of the girls’ game, and the oldest boys’ basketball teams for the YMCA will play during half time of the boys game…  The YMCA cheerleaders will sit with the CHS Cheerleaders and will cheer with them.  All YMCA coaches, players, and cheerleaders will get in free at the game with the passes issued to them from CHS Athletics...  All players, coaches, and cheerleaders should also wear their shirt…. Additionally, we will celebrate all students in the district that made PRINCIPAL’S HONOR ROLL FOR FIRST SEMESTER.  All principals will have passes for eligible students prior to Friday’s game…  Students with these passes will get in free… All students will be recognized on the court IN BETWEEN THE GIRLS AND BOYS GAME this Friday night.


Basketball… The Raider sub-varsity teams played host to the Wade Hampton Generals last night in the main gym at LDHS.

  • JV-G: WH 33 – Laurens 21… The Lady Raiders scored a season high 21 points last night but still was not enough as the Generals took a 33-21 win…. Ha’ley Williams had 6 points to lead the Raiders…. Jakayla Young had 5, Kierney Allen 4, Destyne Wells 3, Jamaya Chapell 2 and Nyre Calhoun 1.
  • 9th Grade Boys: Laurens 22 – WH 20… Now the news is better for Raider fans as the 9th grade boys team took a hard fought 22-20 win over the Generals… Laurens led at the half (11-6) but the Generals fought back and led 16-14 going into the final 6 minutes of play… With the game tied 20-20 and about 11 seconds left to play, the Raider defense stopped the Generals and an offensive rebound put-back by Sean Miller with 1 second left in the game gave the Raiders the win… Shamare Dendy led the Raiders with 8 points… Others putting points on the board were Sean Miller with 7, Rashun Kennedy 5 and Nick Cook 2… The team is now 1-4 on the season.
  • JV-B: WH 42 – Laurens 36… Sorry no details here.

Wrestling… The Raider wrestling team traveled to Greenwood Wednesday where they took on Greenwood and Aiken HS and I just received those results yesterday so let me pass them on to you.

  • Laurens 72 – Aiken 12… Raiders taking wins on the mats against their opponent were Zachary Miller, Zarquel Castro, Austin Doolittle, Caleb Reid and Will Pontoon… Some other Raiders may have taken wins by forfeit and if you would like to find out who they were and complete scoring detail on the match, click here.

Middle School

Clinton MS White at Hickory Tavern on 1-11-18

  • G: HT 37 – CMS-W 22….  CMS took an early lead in this game leading 10-2 at the end of the first quarter and 17-10 at the half… HT came out in the third quarter and outscored CMS 14-3 in the third quarter and then went on top take the win running their record to a perfect 12-0…. Raniya Jackson had 24 points to lead the Panthers…. Kimiah Foggie had 6, Navia Blanding 5 and Morgan Richards 4…. Fir the Wildcats the leading scorer was Kamryn Akins with 8 points…. Naomi Valentine finished with 6, Ahia Barr 3, Tira Owens & Fantasia walker had 2 points each.
  • B: HT 41 – CMS-W 33… In the boys game the two teams battled to a draw as the score was tied 20-20 at the half… The panthers outscored the Wildcats 11-8 in the third quarter and 10-5 in the fourth to take the 41-33 win… Josh Cureton lead HT and all scorers with 14points… Dylan Miller and Preston Mahon were close behind with 13 & 12 points respectively… Blake Nelson rounded out the HT scoring with 2 points…. For the Wildcats, NyKer Sims  finished with 8 points, Jadden Copeland 7, Davis Wilson 5, RT Corley 4, Wil Stewart 3 while both Austin Copeland and Kaiden Gibbs had 2 each.
