Local Notes:

CHS… The Clinton Red Devils traveled to Chapman last night to take on the Panthers as they started the second half of their region schedule.

  • G: Clinton 56 – Chapman 53 The Lady Red Devils came into last night’s game wanting to avenge an earlier 8 point loss to the Panthers and that is just what they did as they took a come from behind 56-53 win… The Red Devils came out cold and trailed 17-7 at the end of the first quarter but continued to fight and chip away at the Panther lead and by the time the third quarter was over they only trailed 43-40… They continued to fight and tied the game at 53-53 and then with about 1:30 left in the contest Kailey Cheeks hit a three-point goal that put Clinton up by 3 and they held on to take the win… Deshanti Watts led the Red Devils with 17 points… The Red Devils had three other players in double-digits and they were Savannah Campbell with 14 points, K. Cheeks with 11 and Terriauna Bennett with 10… Dana Kinard and Tinique Austin finished with 2 points each… The Red Devils improve to 9-11 on the season and 3-3 in region play
  • B: Clinton 81 – Chapman 71… In boys’ action, despite having a couple of players out sick and trailing at half, the Red Devils took an 81-71 win over the Panthers… Clinton trailed 32-25 at the half but stormed back in the third quarter to tie the game at 53 all going into the final quarter… In the third quarter JD Payne had 15 of his game-high 21 points including 3 baskets from behind the three-point line… The Red Devils then completed their comeback outscoring the Panthers 29-18 in the fourth quarter to take the win… Afterwards Coach Eddie Romines said “This was truly a remarkable win for us… We had two guys out sick and we were down 7 at halftime…But we fought back and played a great 2nd half”…. In addition to Payne’s 21 points Zay Bennett scored 19 points and Zay Hurley had 12 to give the Red Devils 3 players in double-digits… Vilo Boyd and Ty Priestly finished the game with 9 points each, Konnor Richardson had 6, BJ Bluford 4 and Zack Jones 2… The Red Devils improve to 12-8 counting season opening tournament games and 4-2 in region play… The Red Devils will host the Mid-Carolina Rebels this Friday night..

LDHS… The Laurens Raiders were also on the road last night as they traveled to Hillcrest to take on the Rams in region action.

  • G: Hillcrest 58 – Laurens 37… In the first game, the Lady Raiders fell to the Lady Rams by a score of 58-37… The Raiders came out cold compared to the Rams and at the end of the first 8 minutes of play the Rams led 16-5… The Rams continued to outscore the Raiders in every quarter except the third which the Raiders “won” 12-11 stretching their lead and making the final 58-37… Qua Fortson led the Raiders with 12 points and Sandajah Vane was the only other Raider in double digits with 10 points… Cali Heisey finished with 5 points, Alexus Espinosa 4, Aija Davis 3, Portland Wallace 2 and Katyah Foggie 1… The Raiders fall to 7-11 overall and 1-4 in region play.
  • B: Laurens 72 – Hillcrest 60… Now the news is better for Raider fans where the boys are concerned as the Raiders took a 72-60 win over the Rams… The Raiders came out hot in the first quarter as Christian Anderson (2), Carson Todd and Dee Foster all had 3-point goals and the Raiders took a 19-11 lead at its end… The Rams cut 2 points off the Raider lead at the half (32-26) but the Raiders made up those 2 points in the third quarter and then went almost perfect from the free throw line in the fourth to seal the win…Christian Anderson had a game-high 27 points which included 5 three-point goals in the game…  Carson Todd and Dee Foster finished with 11 points each to give the Raiders 3 players in double-digits…Ryan Dacre finished with 6 points, Justin Anderson 4, J’von Harris 2, Zay Anderson 2, and Ty Foster 1… The Raiders improve their season record to 8-11 and region record to 1-4… The Raiders will be at home this Friday as they host the Mauldin Mavericks.

Laurens Academy… The Laurens Academy Crusaders hosted the Anderson Christian Academy Lions last night.

  • G: LA 60 – AC 11 The Lady Lions have a very young team and because of that Crusader Coach Jason Marlett decided to let Taylor Campbell and Ruthie Moore have the night off and cheer on their team from the bench…As it turned out the Crusaders really did not need them to defeat the Lions as the Crusaders steam-rolled the Lions 60-11… I think if I tell you the Crusaders led 33-0 at the half you will understand why Coach Marlett let his two star players sit out the game and everyone else who was healthy picked up significant playing time… Blair Quarles led the Crusaders with 19 points and Jennifer Wu was not that far behind with 15 points… Lindsey Burroughs finished with 9 points, Florence Mitchell 5, Regan Williamson & Hannah Stribling 4 each and rounding out the scoring were Mattie Noffz & Julia Marlett with 2 points each… The Crusaders improved their conference record to 7-0 and season record to 20-1…
  • Boys… I’m sorry but Coach Plowden did not send me the results of the boys’ game… When I get them I will let you know… The Crusades host Cambridge Academy and Palmetto Christian tomorrow.
