Local Notes:

CHS

  • This Friday, January 26th, CHS varsity teams will host Mid Carolina and it will be “CHS Alumni Night” so be sure to wear your “throwback gear”… They would love to have former players, cheerleaders, trainers and coaches from all decades join us.  All participants will be asked to join us on the floor at halftime of the boys’ game…  Friday morning we will be Rising and Grinding as the CHS Athletic Program and School will be spotlighted by News Channel 7 on Friday morning starting at 5:00 am.  All current and former coaches, players, students, faculty members and alumni are asked to join in if you can wake up early and get there.

Laurens Academy

  • B: ACA 83 – LA 37… Yesterday I told you that on Tuesday night the Lady Crusaders took a one-sided win over the Lady Lions of Anderson Christian Academy at LA but that I did not have the score for the boys’ game but when I got it I would pass it on… Well I did get that score yesterday and I wish I had better news as the Lions took an 83-37 win over the Crusaders…. Obviously the Crusaders did not have one of their better nights offensively and defensively as they trailed 25-7 after the first 8 minutes of play and the Lions never let them get back in the game… Joshua Moore was the only Crusader in double-digits with 14 points… Noah Moore finished with 7 points, Wil Tindall 5, Dawson Foster 4, Thomas Lowry 3 and both Luke Kerber and Ryan Anderson finished with 2 points each… By the way the Crusader teams are back in action today as the Lady Crusaders host Cambridge Academy and boys host Palmetto Christian.

Middle School

Clinton MS Red Wildcats at Hickory Tavern

  • G: HT 33 – CMS-R 16… In girls’ action, the Lady Panthers ran their record to a perfect 14-0 overall and 11-0 in Little River Conference play with a 33-16 win over the Lady Red Wildcats of CMS… Turnovers were a big problem for the Wildcats in the first half and more often than not the Panthers turned those into points as they carried a 14-3 lead into the locker room at the half…. Those problems continued for the Wildcats in the third quarter as they were held scoreless while the Panthers scored 10 points to make the score 24-3 headed into the final quarter… To their credit the Wildcats did not give up scoring 13 points in final quarter but losing 33-16… Clinton was led by Jada Briley who had11 points all of them coming in the fourth quarter… Zaria Tucker had 3 points and Jada Pitts 2… For the Panthers Kimiya Foggie led all scorers with 18 points… Raniya Jackson finished with 11 points and Navia Blanding 4.
  • B: HT 41 – CMS-R 33… In the boys’ game, the Panthers completed the sweep of the Wildcats by taking a 41-33 win… The game was tight in the first quarter with the Panthers leading 7-5 at its end… The Panthers dominated the second quarter and led 25-13 at the half… The two teams played just about even in the third quarter as the score stood 35-22 at its end… The Wildcats used a full court press to create some Panther turnovers in the fourth quarter and tried to comeback but they just could not get over the hump… Preston Mahon had 13 points to lead the Panthers and Blake Nelson finished in double-digits with 10 points… Josh Cureton finished the game with 9 points, Dylan Miller 8, Trevor Kitzmiller 2 and Thomas Willis 1…  For the Wildcats Kaleb Richardson led the team with 10 points and was the only player in double-digits… Danny Kinard had 7 points, Wilson Wages 6, Qua Mims 4 while both Jykorie Gary and Jay Cheeks finished with 3 points… The Panthers go to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play while the Wildcats fall to 6-5 overall and 5-5 in Little River play.
