JV & 9th Grade Boys Basketball… last night the Raider JV and 9th grade boys teams hosted the Riverside Warriors (Riverside does not have a JV girls team) in a pair of games

  • 9th Grade Boys… Riverside 36 – Laurens 29… In the freshman boys’ game, the two teams got off to a slow start as the score was tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter… The second quarter pretty much proved to be the difference for the Raiders as they again only manages 2 points in the quarter but the Warriors put 14 on the board to take a 16-4 lead into the locker rooms at the half and that was a hole the Raiders just could not climb out of as Riverside took a 36-29 win… Rashun Kennedy led the Raiders with a game-high 12 points… Shamare Dendy finished with 9 points, JQ fair 5 and Zach Messer 3.
  • JV Boys: Laurens 47 – Riverside 31… Now the news id better for Raider fans where the JV boys are concerned as the Raiders took a 47-31 win over the Warriors…. Unlike the freshman team, the Raider JV boys came out hot and had a 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and 25-15 at the half… The Raiders opened up their lead in the third quarter outscoring the Warriors 15-4 and then cruised the rest of the way…Dra Copeland led all scorers with 13 points while Amaija Hill was also in double-digits with 11 points… Jamir Booker finished with 7 points, Landon Ford 5, Jackson Mahon 4, Jerry Wilson 3, Rob Gilliam 2 and Adan Pridgen 2…
  • Schedule Note… The sub-varsity teams will play at Hillcrest next Tuesday not on Monday as originally scheduled.

Raider Wrestling… The Raider wrestling team will be in action tomorrow taking on Fort Mill Saturday at 11:00 am at Byrnes High.  If they win, they then will face the winner of the Byrnes vs. TL Hanna match immediately after finishing their match against Fort Mill… It’s not that far up to Byrnes so go up and support the Raider wrestlers if you have a chance.

Middle School… Last night in a pair of middle school basketball games that you could have heard here on Real radio 860, the Sanders Yellow Jackets traveled to Laurens MS to take on the Tigers in round 2 of their annual “City Championship” series… As you may or may not recall, LMS took both games from Sanders in round 1 in early January.

  • G: LMS 35 – Sanders 22… In the first game, the LMS Tigers took a 35-22 win over the Sanders Yellow Jackets thus taking round 2 and a sweep of the Yellow Jackets… LMS jumped out to an early lead taking a 20-10 lead into the locker room at the half mainly because the Yellow Jackets could not handle the Tiger’s press and turned the ball over a lot… The score might have been more one-sided except for the fact the Tigers had a lot of turnovers also just not as many as Sanders… Angel Johnson led the Tigers with 12 points…  Samaurai Williams had 8, Nadia Anders on 6, Nya Anderson 6 and Johndelyn Grant 4… Amillion Evans and Keira White had 8 points each to lead the Yellow Jackets while Ameriauna Anderson had 4 and Iyonna Cunningham finished with 2.
  • B: LMS 44 – Sanders 33… In the second game, the Tigers completed the sweep of the Yellow Jackets as they took a 44-33 win… The first quarter was rather slow as the score stood 6-2 Tigers at its end… Sanders again only scored only 2 points in the second quarter while the Tigers put up 9 to take a 15-4 lead at the half… The Tigers continued pull away in the second half though Sanders never stopped trying a s they did get to within 10 in the fourth quarter but could get no closer…. Devon Redd led the Tigers with a game-high 15 points while Waldrick Burnside finished with 12… Isaiah Craig had 6 points, Dorian Gibson 3, Zy Todd 2 and Tyler Byers 2… DJ Barksdale led Sanders with 12 points while Ty Johnson and Gemire Darden finished with 6 each…Jayden McGowan had 4, Ladarious Whitmire 6 and Isiah Pearson 1.
