Multiple arrests in Overnight Police Checkpoints

21 people were arrested overnight Friday night and Saturday morning by local law enforcement agencies. 15 were arrested from roadblocks by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

11 people were arrested from three cars stopped on Highway 72/221 near Lake Greenwood.

Five Columbia, SC residents were arrested from one car where an unauthorized pistol was discovered. These included 3 females. All were 19.

Four men from Silver Spring, Maryland were arrested from another vehicle. Aged 25, 26 and 27, were all charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana. One was also charged with Driving under the Influence.

Most of these were released on bond over the weekend.


Among those arrested by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office during the traffic checkpoints early Saturday morning was a young man who had an Arrest Warrant from Greenwood. Deputy McLain apprehended 22-year-old Jes Luis Reyes of 1524 Parkway Drive, Greenwood and transported him to Laurens County Detention, where he is on hold for a charge of Youthful Offender Act Violation. He’s accused of violating provisions of a Youthful Offender sentence issued in Greenwood in October of 2016.
