  • Clinton 70 – Seneca 47… Last night the Clinton Red Devil boys basketball team hosted the Seneca Bobcats in first round action of the Class-AAA playoffs… The Red Devils opened the game with 10 unanswered points and then went on the take a 70-47 win over the Bobcats… After the game Coach Eddie Romines said that before the game started they decided they would press the Bobcats as he felt they would have trouble handling it… They did as the Bobcats had over twice the number of turnovers as the Red Devils… Clinton led 20-12 after the first quarter but seemed to “back off” a little in the second quarter but they still carried a 32-23 lead into the locker room at the half… Coach Romines also mentioned after the game that the Red Devils had trouble “winning” the third quarter in recent games and at the half he challenged them to come back out and do that… They did as the Red Devils outscored the Bobcats 18-9 thus expanding their lead to 50-32 headed into the final 8 minutes of play… In the final quarter any time the Bobcats tried to mount a comeback the Clinton defense would step-up and get a turnover while the offense continued to roll… After the game Coach Romines commented that the team played well in all aspects of the game and that he was proud of the way that they came out and played as a team…. JD Payne had a game-high 19 points to lead the Red Devils… Jahleed Cook and Vilo Boyd were in double digits also with 17 and 10 points respectively… Zack James finished with 7 points, Zay Bennett 6, Zay Hurley 4, Ty Priestly 3, Titus Hood 2 and Sam Tiller 2.
