Sports Report for Friday, 2-16-2018

PC Notes:

  • M: PC 69 – High Point 62…. Last night the PC men’s’ basketball team used a 25-7 run in the second half to lift them to a 69-62 win over the High Point Panthers… Reggie Dillard led the team with 21 points… For more information on this game, click here.
  • W: Campbell 53 – PC 40… The news is not as good where the women’s team is concerned as the Blue Hose lost to Campbell 53-40 back on Tuesday night up in Buies Creek, NC… Campbell had a 21-6 run in the last 9 minutes of the game to pull away from the Blue Hose… For more information on this game, click here…. The team will be back in action tomorrow as they host the High Point Panthers in a 2:00 pm contest at the Templeton Center.

Local Notes:

  • Red Devils Headed to Camden Tonight… The red Devil boys’ basketball team will have to board the bus this afternoon and make the down to Camden HS to take on the Bulldogs in round 2 of the Class-AAA playoffs…. Now I tried to find an accurate season record for the Bulldogs but the usual sources I check did not have their complete season record… My usual source (MaxPreps does not have scores for at least 5 of their scheduled games… I can tell you that they finished first in Region IV-AAA ahead of an old region foe of Clinton’s the Chester Cyclones… In the games that were reported they are averaging 60.6 points per game while giving up 49.3 points per game… They call their gym the Dog Pound and I am sure the Red Devils would love to have a large number of fans to go down and cheer them on… If you would like to go the address for the school is: 1022 Ehrenclou Dr, Camden, SC 29020… Put that into your smart phone or GPS device and you should get there… Depending on which of two main ways you do to get there it should take you 1.5 to 2 hours and that is if there is no problems with traffic… Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.

  • Raiders Host AAAAA Upper State Individual Wrestling Tournament… The min gym at LDHS will be a busy place starting about 5:00 pm as the Raiders are hosting the Class-AAAAA Upper State Individual Tournament… This tournament will have some of the finest high school wrestlers from across the upstate of SC as they try to punch their tickets to the State Finals next weekend… If you have never seen high school wrestling it bears little resemblance to the “Pro Wrassling” you see on TV and is a lot more fun to watch… Come on out starting just after 5 pm this afternoon and again tomorrow morning when the action kicks back off just after 9:00 am.

 Laurens Academy

Crusader Start Playoffs Today and Tomorrow… The Laurens Academy Crusader basketball teams will start their participation in the SCISA Class A playoff today and tomorrow.

  • Girls… The #1 seeded Lady Crusaders will start their participation this afternoon at 3:30 as they travel to the Sumter Civic Center to take on N. Merle Brach which comes into the tournament a # 4 seed… The Stallions come into the tournament 10-9 overall and 6-2 in the region play according to MaxPreps but I am not convinced that is their true record… With a win today the Crusaders will, be back in action Monday… To see the entire bracket click on the following: 2018 SCISA Class 1A Girls Bracket
  • Boys… Now the Crusader boys’ team will not get into action until tomorrow when they travel down to Wilson Hall in Sumter to take on Clarendon Hall with the tipoff scheduled for 3:00 pm…  The Crusaders enter the tournament with a #4 seed while Clarendon Hall comes in as a #1 seed… According to MaxPreps the Saints come into the tournament with a 13-5 record and 10-2 in their region but am cautious in saying that is their record…  A win tomorrow advanced the Crusaders into the next round on Tuesday… To see the entire bracket click on the following: 2018 SCISA Class 1A Boys Bracket
