Sports Report for Friday, 3-2-2017

PC Notes:

  • W: PC 72 – UNC Ashville 63 (OT)… The Lady Blue Hose basketball team closed out the home portion of their regular season on a positive note as they took a 72-63 win over the Bulldogs of UNC Ashville back on Tuesday… The Blue Hose led 31-22 at the half but the Bulldogs fought back and tied the game 54-54 at the end of regulation… The big story in the overtime was PC’s Cortney Storey who scored 15 of her school record 30 points in overtime to help lift PC to the win… For more information on this game, click here…. PC has one regular season game left which will be tomorrow at 3:00 pm down at Charleston Southern.

CHS

  • 3rd Annual Lady Red Devils Invitational Softball Tournament… The 3rd Annual Lady Red Devils Invitational Softball Tournament is scheduled to start today (weather & field conditions permitting) and continue through tomorrow… There will be two pools and Pool A will contain Clinton, Spartanburg, Whitmire and Saluda… Pool B will be made up of Eastside, Powdersville, Laurens and Gray Collegiate… The tournament will be played on two fields with the field at the new CHS being called Field 1 and the old field on the Campus of CMS is designated Field 2… Laurens will play Eastside today at 5:30 on Field 1 while Clinton will be in action on Field 2 at 7:30 against Saluda… Admission is $5 per day and if you want to see the entire tournament schedule for today and tomorrow, click on the following: 2018 Third Annual Red Devil Invitational Softball Tourn

  • B-Soccer: Dixie 3 – Laurens 0… catching up on a score that I just received yesterday, The Raider boys soccer team opened its season on Tuesday as they Hosted the Dixie Hornets… The results are not how the Raiders wanted to open their season as Dixie took a 3-0 win… If you want to see a few more details on this match, click here.   

Laurens Academy

  • Crusaders Host Oakbrook Today… The Laurens Academy Crusader baseball team is scheduled to host Oakbrook today in the Crusaders home opener… AD Travis Plowden notified me yesterday that the first pitch has been pushed back to 7:00 pm to allow them more time to get the wet field dry and ready… If that changes I’ll post up something on our homepage at www.wlbg.com

 

High School Basketball Finals Tonight and Tomorrow… Now as the true high school basketball fans know the SCHSL basketball Finals are today and tomorrow down at the Colonial Life Center in Columbia… Class AA Girls will kick things off today at 3:30 followed by the Class AA Boys and the Girls and Boys Class AAAAA games… Tomorrow at 10:30 am the Class A Girls will play and the Class A Boys… They will be followed by Class AAA Girls and Boys and then Class AAAA Girls and Boys… If you would like to see the tournament brackets and line-up of teams playing today and tomorrow, click here…. By the way I do believe most all of the championship games can be seen on Channel, 40, WMYA TV.

  • 40th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast… The 40th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be taking place at Clinton HS march 5-9, 2018 and will start at 7:00 am each day… The event is being sponsored by the CHS /CMS FHA and the Clinton Family YMCA… There will be a different quest speaker each day and if you would like to learn who they are and a brief biography on each, click here… Breakfast will last from 7-7:40 am each day and is free to students and adults will pay $3.00 at the door if they plan to eat… There is no cost to anyone to hear the speaker and that will start at 7:50 am… If you have any questions, call Gene Simmons at the Clinton YMCA and their number is 833-1555… Make plans to come out to hear some great speakers.
  • 2018 Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Inductees Announced…  The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting into their second class on March 22, 2018 at The Ridge the city of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department headquarters. The five who will enter the hall this year are Ricky Foggie, Bobby Ivey, Kinard Littleton, Sam Owns and Truman Owens… Now for more information about each of these worthy inductees, a reminder of who was in last year’s class, information about how they were selected and ticket information for the induction banquet, click here…. Congratulations to them all!
  • 14th Annual GOLF FOR KIDS… The Laurens Family YMCA and Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative will be having their 14th Annual Golf for Kids on March 24th at the Lakeside Country Club… This is one of the YMCA’s major fundraisers for their Scholarship Program which helps those unable to participate in YMCA programs due to financial difficulties… Last year the YMCA awarded almost $50,000 in scholarships … Now if you are interested in the format, cost and starting time, click here to open a brochure that tells you all about the tournament or contact Brian Harland at 864-984-2626 or brian@laurensymca.org
