Local Notes:

Lady Red Devil Invitational… The Third Annual Lady Red Devil Invitational Softball Tournament was held this past Friday and Saturday at both the softball field at CHS and the field at CMS… There were 8 teams in the tournament divided into two pools… Clinton, Spartanburg, Saluda and Whitmire were in Pool A while Laurens, Eastside, Powdersville and Gray Colligate were in Pool B… Let’s recap how Laurens and Clinton did in the tournament pretty much in the order that the games occurred…. Each game’s box score and stats as well as game scorecard are included for each game.

  • Laurens 16 – Eastside 0… In their first game Friday afternoon, the Raiders took a 16-0 win in 4.5 innings over Eastside… The Raiders pounded out 14 hits while allowing Eastside just 1 hit and were the recipient of 13 Eastside errors… Michaela Smith led the Raiders going 3-4… Rachel Delio started the game in the circle and picked up the win going 2 innings… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-2-18-Eastside… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-2-18-Eastside-SB
  • Saluda 10 – Clinton 3… The Red Devils opened their participation in the tournament Friday night in the cold and the win taking on the Saluda Tigers… Saluda put 3 runs on the board in the top of the first inning and the Red Devils responded with 2 of their own in the bottom of the second inning… Saluda answered with 4 more runs in the top of the third inning while Clinton put one on the board in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-3… The Tigers plated 3 more in the top of the fifth and held Clinton scoreless in the bottom of the inning as the time limit expired… Madison Burton led the Red Devils going 2 for 3… Kamryn Akins pitched the entire game and took the loss…  For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-2-18-Saluda… For the games scorecard, click on the following… CHS-SB-3-2-18-Saluda-SC
  • Powdersville 5 – Laurens 0… The Raiders were back out on the field bright and early at 9 am on Saturday morning taking on the Powdersville Patriots… It was a relatively low-scoring game as both teams combined to score 5 runs on 7 hits but unfortunately for Raider fans the Patriots had all 5 runs on 4 hits to take a 5-0 win… Three Raider errors aided the Patriots cause… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-3-18-Powdersville… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-3-18-Powdersville-SC
  • Clinton 21 – Spartanburg 0… The Red Devils were able to sleep in a little later as they did not start their game against the Spartanburg Vikings until just about 11 am… The extra sleep must have paid off as they came out and took a whopping 21-0 win over the Vikings… Clinton did all their scoring in two innings as they put 11 runs on the board in the first inning and 10 runs in the third on 14 hits and 7 Viking errors… Kassidy Jennings went 3-4 to lead the Red Devils with 4 other Red Devils getting 2 hits each… Kamryn Akins was the starting pitcher and took the win with Kate Marshall pitching in relief…  For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-3-18-Gm-1-Spart… For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-3-18-Gm-1-Spart-SC
  • Laurens 6 – Grays Academy 5… The Raiders got back into action about 3 pm as the faced off against the War Eagles of Gray Collegiate Academy out of Columbia… The game was scoreless until the third inning when the Raiders took a 3-0 lead… Gray scored 1 run in the top of the fourth inning and 4 more in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead… With the time limit approaching, the Raiders were probably down to their last at-bat in the bottom of the fifth and need a rally… Well they had one… The Raiders scored 2 runs to tie the game and with the bases loaded and one out Micaela Smith singled to drive in the winning run in walk-off fashion… The Raiders got their hits on just 6 hits with Vanesa Harshaw getting two of them… Rachel Delio picked up the complete game win… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-3-18-Gm_2-Gray Collegiate… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-3-18-Gm_2-Gray Collegiate-SC
  • Clinton 4 – Whitmire 2… About the same time the Raiders were taking on Grays Academy the Red Devils were taking on the Whitmire Wolverines… The Red Devils held a 3-0 lead going into the bottom sixth inning when the Wolverines scored their first run… The Red Devils got that run back in the top of the seventh inning then held the Wolverines to a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 4-2 win… Dianna Martin and Elizabeth Childress led the Red Devils as they both went 2 for 4 at the plate… Kamryn Akins picked up the complete game win… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-3-18-Gm-2-Whitmire… For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-3-18-Gm-2-Whitmire-SC
