Local Notes:

  • Emerald 12 – Laurens 6… The Laurens Raider baseball team opened its season on the road last night as they traveled to Emerald to take on the Vikings… The Raiders jumped on the board first scoring 4 runs in the top of the second inning Ty Foster had an RBI single in the inning and Kobe Williams a double that drove in 2 runs… In the bottom of the second inning the Vikings scored 12 runs on 6 hits and 5 walks as it seemed everything went right for them… A Raider error or two along with some passed balls and wild pitches also figured into the Viking scoring… The Raiders continued to battle and did get a couple of more runs but it was just not their night…. Tanner Smith had 2 of the Raiders 6 hits on the night… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-5-Emerald… For the games scorecard, click on the following LDHS-BB-3-5-Emerald-SC …. Weather permitting, the Raiders travel to Riverside today to start their region schedule.

 Laurens Academy

  • LA 6 – Shannon Forrest 5… Yesterday the LA Crusaders baseball team hosted the Shannon Forrest Crusaders in LA first home game of the season… Now if I told you the final score was 6-5 and that SF had 9 hits in the game while LA had 3, you most likely would say that SF must have taken the 6-5 win… Wrong, LA took the win playing small-ball and clutch hits… SF got on the board first platting 2 runs in the third inning and the crusaders took the lead in the bottom of the fourth pushing across 3 runs on a single, a walk, a hit batter and a 2-run double by Joshua Moore… SF tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth but LA retook the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring 1 run… SF responded with a run in the top of the 6th inning only to have LA take the lead for good in the bottom of the same inning… Both of LA’s last two runs came on hit batters, walks and sacrifice bunts… The winning run was driven in on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Thompson… Thomas Lowry picked up the win in relief of Wil Tindal… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LA-3-5-Shannon_Forrest … For the games scorecard, click on the following LA-3-5-Shannon_Forrest-SC … weather permitting the Crusaders will host Oakbrook Prep today at 6:00 pm.
