Local Notes:

CHS

  • B: Clinton 3 – BHP 2… Last night the red Devils opened their home baseball season taking on the BHP Bears… It was a goods opening for the Red Devils as they put 3 runs on the board in the bottom of the first and then held on to take a 3-2 win over the Bears… Qua Quarles hit the first pitch of the bottom of the first for a line drive single to start the inning… Aaron Copeland then walked and Taylor Bailey singled loading the bases… A BHP error in the outfield allowed 2 runs to score and another BHP error allowed Bailey to move to third and he later scored on a wild pitch… BHP picked up both their runs in the sixth inning… Dawson Green battled through four tough innings, working around base runners in every inning with the help of a solid defensive effort, recording outs at third base and home plate at critical moments… Griffin Fuller came off the bench and was able to hold his team in the game until Caleb Riddle entered with Clinton clinging to a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning and the bases loaded…  Riddle was able to get out of the jam and then retire the side in the 7th to seal the victory…  To see sport report for box score provided by BHP scorer click on the following: CHS-BB_3-7-18-BHP … Clinton travels to BHP on Monday.

LDHS

  • B: Riverside 7 – Laurens 2… The Raider baseball team traveled to Riverside last night to take on the Warriors in their first region game of the season… Riverside started the scoring plating 2 runs in the third and Laurens got on the board in the fifth getting a run when Kobe Williams doubled driving in Nate Towels… The Warriors got that run back in the bottom of the inning making it 3-1… In the sixth inning the Raider would pick up another run when Nathan Rutter singled to start the inning and would later score of a Riverside error making it 3-2 Warriors… The warriors responded putting 4 runs on the board in the bottom of the inning and went on to take a 7-2 win over our Raiders… According to the Riverside provided box score (which you can see by clicking on the following: LDHS-BB-3-7-Riverside ), the Raiders had 6 hits to the Warriors’ 9 and Rutter had 2 of the Raiders 6 hits… The teams will play again tomorrow night at Ed Prescott Fields as part of a JV-Varsity doubleheader with first pitches slated for 5 & 7:30… We plan on brining you the varsity game at about 7:30 here on Real Radio 860 and streaming live on the internet at www.wlbg.com

This & That:

  • Travel Basketball Workouts….Any student, girl or boy, in the 2nd-6th grades interested in playing travel basketball to please come to workouts for the SC Upstate Heat this Thursday, March 8 at LDHS main gym… Workouts will be 5:30-6:45 for the 2nd-6th graders and 6:15-7:30 for 7th-11th graders.
  • 40th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast… The 40th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be taking place at Clinton HS march 5-9, 2018 and will start at 7:00 am each day… The event is being sponsored by the CHS /CMS FHA and the Clinton Family YMCA… There will be a different quest speaker each day and if you would like to learn who they are and a brief biography on each, click here… Breakfast will last from 7-7:40 am each day and is free to students and adults will pay $3.00 at the door if they plan to eat… There is no cost to anyone to hear the speaker and that will start at 7:50 am… If you have any questions, call Gene Simmons at the Clinton YMCA and their number is 833-1555… Make plans to come out to hear some great speakers.
  • 2018 Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Inductees Announced… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting into their second class on March 22, 2018 at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department Headquarters and will start at 6:30 pm… Tickets to the ceremony are $25 each and are on sale at the Clinton and Laurens YMCA as well as farm Bureau Insurance… The five who will enter the hall this year are Ricky Foggie, Bobby Ivey, Kinard Littleton, Sam Owns and Truman Owens… Now for more information about each of these worthy inductees, a reminder of who was in last year’s class, information about how they were selected and ticket information for the induction banquet, click here…. Congratulations to them all!
  • 14th Annual GOLF FOR KIDS… The Laurens Family YMCA and Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative will be having their 14th Annual Golf for Kids on March 24th at the Lakeside Country Club… This is one of the YMCA’s major fundraisers for their Scholarship Program which helps those unable to participate in YMCA programs due to financial difficulties… Last year the YMCA awarded almost $50,000 in scholarships … Now if you are interested in the format, cost and starting time, click here to open a brochure that tells you all about the tournament or contact Brian Harland at 864-984-2626 or brian@laurensymca.org
