Sports Report for Monday, 3-12-2018

Local Notes:

  • Soccer: Clinton 2 – Woodruff 0… Last Friday the Red Devil soccer team hosted the Woodruff Wolverines in their first region soccer match of the season…Good news for Red Devil fans as the Clinton took a 2-0 win… Juan Lawson and Patrick Nelson scored the Clinton goals… For more details and comments from Coach Hammond, click here.

  • Baseball: Riverside 6 – Laurens 3… Last Friday night for the second time in three days the Laurens Raiders and the Riverside Warriors Faced each other in region play this time at Ed Prescott Field… Also for the second time in 3 days the Raiders fell to the Warriors this time by a score of 6-3… The Warriors led 3-0 going into the bottom of the third inning when the Raiders put 2 runs on the board… Ty Foster had a double in the inning and Kobe Williams walked and both scored thanks to a couple of Warrior errors… The Warriors DH Greg Keilman had a 3 run homer in the fifth inning to pretty much put the game on ice but the Raiders battled right down to the end as they did score another run in the seventh inning… The Raiders managed 7 hits with Foster and Williams getting 2 hits each… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-9-Riverside … For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-9-Riverside-SC … The Raiders are back at home today (weather permitting) as they host Emerald in a JV-Varsity doubleheader with the JVs starting at 5:30 and the varsity about 7:30… We plan on bringing you that game here on Real Radio 860 WLBG and streaming on the internet at
  • Softball: Doubleheader at Riverside… The Raider softball team was also in action Friday as they traveled to Riverside to not only play the regularly scheduled game but also making up a game that was rained out last Tuesday… The games were scheduled for 5 innings each… Game 1: Laurens 7 – Riverside 1… In the first game the Raiders took a 7-1 win over the Warriors in 5 innings… The Raiders put 2 runs on the bottom of the first inning… Tamara Haney had an RBI single in the inning… Riverside got their run in the top of the third inning but the Raiders responded by putting 5 on the board in the bottom of the inning… Haney, Jillian Sword and Cassy Plaia all had RBI hits in the inning… Game 2: Laurens 7 – Riverside 3… The Raiders completed the sweep of the Warriors by taking a 7-3 win in the second game but they had to go the full 7 innings to do it… The Raiders trailed 3-2 going into the top of the fifth inning which was supposed to be the final inning… The Raiders did score a run to tie the game largely in part due to Warrior errors… The game remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when the Raiders struck for 4 runs and then held the Warriors scoreless in the bottom of the inning to take the win…  I think that Plaia and Rachel Delio had key hits in the inning… The reason I say “I think” is because I have not been able to get the “official” game summary and am relying on the Riverside scorer… When I get those “official” results I’ll pass them on… The team returns to action tomorrow as they travel to Wade Hampton to take on the Generals in a 6:00 pm contest and then return home on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm contest that we plan on broadcasting.
  • Tennis: Wade Hampton 6 – Laurens 0… Catching up with the Raider boys’ tennis team, they hosted the wade Hampton Generals last Thursday and the news is not what I like to report as the Generals took a 6-0 win over the Raiders… For more information on this match, click here… The team travel to BHP today.
