Sports Report for Friday, 3-16-208

PC Notes:

  • BB: NC A&T 8 – PC 5… The Blue Hose baseball team was in action Wednesday as they traveled to Greensboro, NC to take on the Aggies of NC A&T… The Aggies led 8-5 going into the ninth inning and PC loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but just could not get any runs across and fell by the score of 8-5… Fir more information on the game, click here… PC falls to 5-13 on the season and will be in action at Winthrop this weekend starting at 6:00 pm tonight.
  • SB: ETSU 7 – PC 0 and PC 8 – ETSU 7… The PC softball team was also in action on Wednesday as they hosted the Bucs of East Tennessee State University in a doubleheader…. The first game was all Bucs as they took a 7-0 win over PC… The second game was a different story as PC took a come from behind 8-7 win over the Bucs… Courtney White had a grand slam to help lead the Blue Hose to the win… For more information on these games, click here… The Blue Hose are now 2-20 on the season and will travel to garner-Webb for a 3 game series this weekend with the first game starting at 4:00 pm today.

CHS

  • Tennis: Clinton 7 – Chapman 0… The Red Devil tennis team was in action Wednesday as they hosted the panthers of chapman HS… Good news for Red Devil fans as they took a 7-0 win over the Panthers… Isaac McMillan, Ike Waldron, Tyler Trevino, Anders Orr and Alexander Windsor all took wins in singles action… MacMillan and Waldrop teamed up as the #1 doubles team defeated their opponents while Kyler Simmons & Conner Donley defeated their opponents as the #2 doubles team… For complete match details, click here… Now the team was scheduled to go to Mid-Carolina yesterday but as of the time I di this I still had not gotten the results.
  • BB: Ninety Six 15 – Clinton 4… The Red Devil baseball team hosted the Ninety Six Wildcats last night and the Red Devil bats were cold as the Wildcats took a 15-4 win over the Red Devils in 5 innings… The Wildcats led 10-0 going into the bottom of the third inning before Clinton got on the board scoring 3 runs… The Red Devils picked up those 3 runs after two were out… Taylor Bailey and Caleb Riddle had key hits in the inning… The Wildcats added 5 more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 15-3 lead but the Red Devils did not roll over as they scraped and put another run on the board sorry in the bottom of the inning when Qua Quarles was hit by a pitch and later came around to score… Sorry but I do not have any “official stats” on the game…  The team travels to Mid-Carolina today for a JV- Varsity doubleheader.
  • Softball: Clinton 18 – Spartanburg 8… Now the news is better where the softball team is concerned as they mounted a 16 hit attack last night that produced 18 runs as they defeated the Spartanburg Vikings 18-8… The big inning for the Red Devils was the fourth when they put up 10 runs to take a 13-4 lead… They then led 17-8 going to bottom of sixth inning where they scored 1 run to end the game on the 10 run rule…. Beth Wiggins 4 hits including a double and 5 RBIs while Hunter Benson had 3 hits including 2 triples and 2 RBIs to lead the Red Devils at the plate… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-15-18-Spt… For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-15-18-Spt-SC… The team host the Mid-Carolina today in a JV- Varsity doubleheader.
  • Softball: Brashier Middle College Charter 6 – Clinton 2… Now the Red Devil softball team was also in action Wednesday evening as they hosted the Bengals of Brashier Middle College Charter out of Simpsonville… Unfortunately the news is not as good as it was for last night’s game as the Bengals took a 6-2 win over the Red Devils.. The Bengals led 6-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when the never say die Red Devils did manage to put 2 runs on the board but just could not get any closer… Hunter Benson had 2 hits and an RBI to lead the Red Devils 5 hit attack… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-14-18-BMCC… For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-14-18-BMCC-SC

  • 2018 Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame Inductees Announced… The Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting into their second class on March 22, 2018 at The Ridge the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department Headquarters and will start at 6:30 pm… Tickets to the ceremony are $25 each and are on sale at the Clinton and Laurens YMCA as well as Farm Bureau Insurance… The five who will enter the hall this year are Ricky Foggie, Bobby Ivey, Kinard Littleton, Sam Owns and Truman Owens… Now for more information about each of these worthy inductees, a reminder of who was in last year’s class, information about how they were selected and ticket information for the induction banquet, click here…. Congratulations to them all!
  • 14th Annual GOLF FOR KIDS… The Laurens Family YMCA and Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative will be having their 14th Annual Golf for Kids on March 24th at the Lakeside Country Club… This is one of the YMCA’s major fundraisers for their Scholarship Program which helps those unable to participate in YMCA programs due to financial difficulties… Last year the YMCA awarded almost $50,000 in scholarships … Now if you are interested in the format, cost and starting time, click here to open a brochure that tells you all about the tournament or contact Brian Harland at 864-984-2626 or brian@laurensymca.org
  • Inaugural Raider Alumni Baseball Game Scheduled… The LDHS Raider baseball team will be holding their first ever alumni baseball game on Saturday, April 14th at Ed Prescott Field… Any alumni who wishes to participate needs to contact Coach Tori Patterson at 864-200-8654 or email kjpatterson@laurens55.org…. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:1m… Now the night before (Friday, April 13th) they will have a meet and greet for the alumni players starting at 5:45 pm at the field.. Those alumni on hand will be recognized before the Raider baseball game against the Hillcrest Rams that starts about 7:30… So if you are an baseball alumni and want to meet up with other past players and have a little fun mark those dates on your calendar and contact Coach Patterson.
