Local Notes

CHS

  • BB: Clinton 17 – Newberry 7… Last night the Red Devil baseball team hosted the Newberry Bulldogs in region baseball action and the Red Devil took a 17-7 win… Coach Fortman said each member of the lineup had at least one hit and that Dawson Green picked up the complete game win.
  • Softball: Sorry but Coach Salmans did not get the score to me.
  • Coach Gardner and Red Devil Players Earn Postseason Honors… One bit of news from CHS concerning the recently competed basketball season… De’Shanti Watts and Savanna Campbell were named to the Region 3-AAA All-Region team… In addition Coach John Gardner was named the regions Coach of the Year for leading his team into the playoffs for the first time in a few years with a much improved record over the previous seasons…Congratulations to all of them!

LDHS

  • BB: Mauldin 4 – Laurens 1… Last night the Laurens Raiders hosted the Mauldin Mavericks in region baseball action at Ed Prescott Field… The game started well enough for the Raiders as they plated a run in the bottom of the first after two outs when Jalen Bragg singled and two batters later Kobe Williams brought him in with an RBI single… However that was all the runs the Raiders would produce in the game and the Mavericks scored 4 to take a 4-1 win over the Raiders… Mauldin took the lead for good putting two runs on the board in the top of the second inning  and the score remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh when Laurens relieve pitcher Jalen Bragg surrendered back to back solo homers to make the score 4-1… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-20-Mauldin … For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-20-Mauldin-SC…  By the way the JVs took an 11-8 win over the Mavericks in action prior to the varsity game.
  • SB: Mauldin 15 – Laurens 0… The Raider softball team traveled to Mauldin last night and all I can tell you is that Mauldin took a 15-0 win over the Raiders t break the Raiders’ 4-game winning streak in the region… Sorry I do not have any further details at this time.
  • Butch Clark Back as Interim Head Coach… Laurens School District 55 announced yesterday morning that recently retired former Raider softball coach Butch Clark is back at the helm of the Raiders for the near future as Coach Hailey Satterfield was put on temporary administrative leave from coaching duties only as her role as head softball coach is under review… The press release did not state the reason for her administrative leave but WLBG has learned that it centers around the JV team not having a coach present during its recent participation in a tournament last weekend… As we learn more on this we will keep you posted.

Laurens Academy

  • Oakbrook 6 – LA 1… The Laurens Academy baseball team traveled up to Spartanburg yesterday to take on the Oakbrook Prep Knights… The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play and then went on to take a 6-1 over the Crusaders… The Crusaders’ run came in the fourth inning when Dawson Green led off with a single, reached second on a passed ball and third on a sacrifice bunt by Noah Moore… Thomas Lowry then brought him home with an RBI single… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LA-3-20-Oak… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LA-3-20-Oak-SC
