Local Notes:

CHS… Last Friday the CHS baseball and softball teams took on the Broome Centurions one at home and the other on the road up at Broome.

  • BB: Broome 6 – Clinton 3… The Red Devil baseball team was the one on the road as they traveled up to Broome to take on the Centurions… The Centurions put 6 runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and that hole was just a little too deep for the Red Devils to climb out of though they tried as the Centurions took a 6-3 win… According to the Broome scorer, they got their 6 runs on 5 walks, an error and a double… The Red Devils plated one run in the top of the fourth inning when Caleb Riddle led the inning off with a double and was later brought home on an RBI double by Chance Ewell… Clinton’s other two runs were scored in the sixth inning when Taylor Bailey led off with a single and came home when Chance Ewell again doubled… Later Ewell scored on an RBI single by Hunter Odom…. Again according to the Broome scores, Clinton had 5 hits to the Centurions 3… Also Ewell led the Red Devils going 2-3 with the 2 doubles and 2 RBIs…. The Red Devils are now 4-7 on the season and 1-3 in region play and the varsity is scheduled to play at BHP today at 6:00 pm.
  • SB: Broome 13 – Clinton 3…  Now the softball team hosted the Centurions and unfortunately for Red Devil fans the news is not good here either as the Centurions took a 13-3 win… The Centurions scored early and had a 6-0 lead before the Red Devils were able to put a run on the board in the bottom of the third inning… With 2 outs Grayson Taylor singled and then came home on an RBI double by Hunter Benson… Broome plated 2 more runs in the top of the fourth inning and the Red Devils responded with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning…  Dianna Martin led the inning off with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Elizabeth Childress… Childress was advanced to third on a single by Kamryn Akins and then scored on a wild pitch… Broome went on to score 5 runs in the top of the sixth inning and then held Clinton scoreless in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the 10-run rule…Hunter Benson had 2 of the Red Devils 7 hits in the game and they were both doubles… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-23-18-Brm… For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-23-18-Brm-SC … The team is now 6-5 on the season and 2-2 in region play and is scheduled to host Brashier Middle College Academy this afternoon.

LDHS… The Laurens Raider baseball and softball teams were also in action Friday as they took on the Mauldin Mavericks.

  • BB: Laurens 4 – Mauldin 2… The Raider baseball team traveled to Mauldin last Friday night looking to avenge a tough 4-1 loss to the Mavericks at Ed Prescott Field this past Tuesday… Well they got their revenge as thy took a 4-2 win… They went up 1-0 in the first inning as Ty Foster singled to lead off the game and later scored on a RBI single by Nathan Rutter… The Raiders scored again in the third inning when Heath Bragg led off the inning drawing a walk and later scoring on a RBI single by Layton Mahon… The Raiders final two runs came in the fifth inning when Jalen Bragg and Nathan Rutter both reached base on hits at the start of the inning and then made it around the bases and scored on pass balls… Mauldin scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning…The Raiders had 8 hits in the game with Foster, Rutter and Mahon each getting two hits… Heath Bragg picked up the complete game win giving up the complete game win giving up 6 hits while striking out 6 while walking just 3… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-23-Maul… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-BB-3-23-Maul-SC… The team returns to action tomorrow as they step out of region play to take on the Easley Green Wave at Easley.
  • SB: Laurens 16 – Mauldin 12… Now last Tuesday the Raider softball team traveled to Mauldin and left their bats and gloves at home as they lost 15-0… Friday night they were able to avenge that loss as they took a 16-12 win over the Mavericks… Mauldin led 10-3 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Raider struck for 6 runs to tie the game 10-10… They put 5 more runs on the board in the fifth and a single run in the sixth while holding the Mavericks to just 2 more runs in the seventh to take the 16-12 win… The game was not “pretty” as both teams had just 9 hits each and the two teams combined for 21 errors… Vanessa Harshaw, Cassy Plaia and Octavia Johnson had 2 hits each to lead the Raiders and one of Johnson’s hits was a 3-run homer the fifth inning…. Laurens Academy…

  • WW King 12 – Crusaders 1…The Laurens Crusader baseball team played host to the Knights of WW King last Friday and they were just too nice of a host as the Knights took a 12-1 win over the Crusaders… The Crusaders only trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the third inning when the Crusaders picked up their lone run when Dawson Foster led the inning off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball… This set the stage for Noah Moore to bring him in with a sacrifice bunt… The Knights led 6-1 going into the top of the seventh where they scored 6 more runs putting the Crusaders further in a hole they could not climb out of… Wil Tindal went 3-3 thus having 3 of the Crusaders 7 hits in the game… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LA-3-23-WWK… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LA-3-23-WWK-SC… The team is scheduled to travel to Greenwood Christian today for a 6 pm game.
