Sports Report for Wednesday, 3-28-2018

Local Notes:

CHS… The Clinton baseball and softball teams either hosted or played the Woodruff Wolverines at Woodruff last night

  • Baseball: Clinton 4 – Woodruff 1… The Red Devil baseball team was the team on the road playing up at Woodruff and the news here is good for Red Devil fans as they took a 4-1 win over the Wolverines… According to the Wolverine scorer on game Changer, the Red Devils got on the board first as they plated a single run in the top of the second inning… Corey Suber singled, moved to third on a double by Layne Cunningham and then scored on an RBI single by Dawson Green… In the third inning it looks like both Caleb Riddle and Taylor Bailey reached base thanks to Wolverine errors… Again according to the Wolverine scorer, Griffin Fuller and Suber both singled to drive in Riddle and Bailey… The Wolverines had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning but Thomas Hellams was able to work out of the jam allowing only a single run to score… The Red Devils got that run back in the top of the sixth inning when Suber reached base on an error and eventually scored on a wild pitch… Layne Cunningham and Corey Suber led the Red Devil attack with two hits each with one of Cunningham’s being a double… Hellams pitched 6⅔ innings striking out 6… Chance Ewell closed out the game with a strikeout…. The Red Devils are 5-8 on the season and 2-3 in region play and the same two teams will get together this Friday at Clinton.
  • Softball: Woodruff 11 – Clinton 1… Now the news is not as good where the softball team is concerned as they fell to Wolverines 11-1 at home… Woodruff struck for 3 runs in the first and 5 more in the second before the Red Devils could get on the board… The Red Devils only run came in the third inning when Hunter Benson hit a solo homer…  The Wolverines got their final 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning and then held the Red Devils scoreless in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the 10-run lead rule… The Red Devils had only 4 hits in the game with Benson’s being the big blow and three other Red Devils had 1 hit each… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-27-18-Wood… For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-3-27-18-Wood-SC
  • JV: Woodruff 13- Clinton 6

  • Softball: Laurens 2 – Boiling Springs 1… Last night the Raider softball team hosted the Bulldogs of Boiling Springs in non-region play… Rachel Delio and two Bulldog pitchers hooked up in a pitcher’s duel as the Raiders took a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs…The Bulldogs plated a run in the top of the first inning and then Delio and the Raider defense kept them scoreless the rest of the way… The Raiders scored their only two runs of the game in the second inning when with one out Kauree Munyan singled to center field… Tamara Haney followed with a single as Munyan made it to third and Hany moved on to second on the throw trying to get Munyan at third… After the next Raider struck out, Cassy Plaia had what would prove to be the biggest of the 4 Raider hits on the night as she doubled to left field driving in Munyan and Haney… The Raiders never had a base runner after that and the Bulldogs did threaten a couple of times but were unsuccessful….  Delio picked up the complete game win giving up the 1 unearned run on 4 hits while striking out 8 and walking 3… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-27-18-B-S … For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-SB-3-27-18-B-S-SC … The Red Devils and the Raiders are scheduled to play each other in a JV / Varsity doubleheader this afternoon starting at 5:00 pm and we plan on bringing you the varsity game just about 7:00 pm here on Real Radio 860 WLBG and streaming live on the internet at
  • Baseball… Now if you have a baseball schedule you know that the Raiders were supposed to travel up to Easley last night to take on the Green Wave and then host the Green Wave tomorrow night… Well they called LDHS yesterday and said they somehow overlooked the fact that they had region games and had to cancel… Go figure… The Raiders will be in action tonight as they travel to Woodruff for a varsity only game starting at 6:00 pm.
