PC Notes:

Softball… The Blue Hose softball team traveled down to North Charleston to take on the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in a 3-game series over the weekend… For more information on each of these contest, click on their scores.

  • Friday: CS 6 – PC 1… On Friday the Bucs took a 6-1 win over the Blue Hose largely in part to a pair of back to back homeruns by the Bucs in the fourth inning… The Bucs only outhit the Blue Hose 7-6 but theirs were more timely hits.
  • Saturday: CS 6 – PC 3 and CS 7 – PC 0… In the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, the Bucs took a 6-3 win over the Blue Hose…. The game was tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Bucs struck for 3 runs then shut PC out the rest of the way… In eh second game on Saturday, the Blue Hose offensive woes continued as the Bucs took a 7-0 win to sweep the Blue Hose in the 3-game series…. PC managed only 1 hit in the game…. The team will be hosting South Carolina State tomorrow in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 2:00 pm.

Baseball… The Blue Hose baseball team was also at home as they hosted the Liberty Flames in a 3-game series that started last Thursday with PC taking a 13-7 win that I told you about last Friday… For more information about each of these games, click their scores.

  • Friday: PC 8 – Liberty 7… PC and Liberty battled to a 7-7 tie going into the bottom of the ninth inning but PC’s Tannor Byrd quickly broke the tie as he had a walk of homer (his second HR of the game) to lift PC to an 8-7 win over the Flames.
  • Saturday: CS 11 – PC 6…  ON Saturday the Blue Hose were hoping to pull out the booms and make it a clean-sweep of the Bucs but they would have none of  that as they took an 11-6 win over PC… Liberty jumped quickly as they plated 7 runs in the first inning… The Blue Hose continued to try to come back right down to the bottom of the ninth inning when they plated 2 runs on back to back homers by Jack McLaughlin and Nick Wise… The Blue Hose are back in action today as they travel up to Durham to take on NC Central in a 6 pm game and then will be back home tomorrow when they host North Carolina A&T in a 3 pm game.

Local Notes:

  • Softball: Woodruff 5 – Clinton 0… The Red Devil softball teams traveled up to Woodruff yesterday and in varsity action the Clinton bats were on “spring break” as the Red Devils managed just one hit as the Wolverines took a 5-0 win over the Red Devils…Woodruff scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning and they would prove to be the winning runs as the Woodruff pitcher struck out 5 Red Devils and walked just 2 and did not give up a hit until the 9th inning when Caroline Birchmore singled with 2 outs…. For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: CHS-SB-4-2-18-Wood … For the games scorecard, click on the following: CHS-SB-4-2-18-Wood-SC… The team will not be in action again until next Monday when they travel to Whitmire for a JV – Varsity doubleheader.
  • JV SB: Woodruff 10 – Clinton 2… In JV action prior to the varsity game, the Wolverines were also victorious by a score of 10-2… Both teams had 8 hits but the Red Devils were guilty of a few more errors than the Wolverines… Kate Marshall and Kaitlyn Baker each had 2 of the Red Devil 8 hits and both had a single and a double with Marshall driving in the 2 Clinton runs in the 5th inning.

College Notes:

  • Villanova Beats Michigan 79-62 to Win National Championship… Well in case you fell asleep or something worse happened to you last night, I’ll quickly tell you that Villanova won its second Div-I National Championship in three year as it defeated Michigan 79-62… The Wildcats did trail the Wolverines by 7 midway through the first half but did comeback to lead 37-28 at the half and were never really threatened after that… The game’s MVP was the Wildcats’ reserve guard Donte DiVincenzo who came off the bench and scored a career high 31 points… For more information about the game, click here.

Pros: Click on the scores of games below for more information about the game.

  • Nationals 8 – Braves 1… Someone asked me at church Sunday what I thought about the Braves taking 2 of 3 from the Phillies to start their season and if it signaled a better year in store for the Braves… My reply was simple, it’s too early to tell but the we would have a better indication starting Monday as the Braves were going to be starting a 3-game series with the Washington Nationals in Atlanta a team that has given them a lot of problems in recent years… Well they did start the series last night and the nationals looked strong (at least stronger than the Braves as they took an 8-1 win outhitting the Braves 10-4… No Brave had more than 1 hit in the game.
