Assault, Extortion, Theft

Charges of Domestic Violence, Blackmail/Extortion and Theft from incidents over the last five months were served this weekend following a Friday arrest by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. 31-year-old Paul Charles Hunt of 324 Singing Pines Road, Mountville was charged with 2nd Degree Domestic Violence, Blackmail / Extortion and Petit Larceny.

In a warrant charging 2nd Degree Domestic Violence, Sheriff’s Captain Robert Wilkie states that on February 20th of 2018 Mr. Hunt inflicted moderate injury on a victim by assaulting and choking her, scratching her, pulling her hair, threatening to kill her and by taking her phone so that she could not call for help. The warrant states that the subject and victim were cohabitating when this occurred.

In the Blackmail/Extortion warrant, Sheriff’s Investigator Michael Blackmon states that on December 15th, 2017 Hunt held property that belonged to the victim in an attempt to extort $100 from her.

In the Petit Larceny warrant, Lt. Blackmon states that on November 14th, 2017 Hunt took a Seiko watch and a charm bracelet valued at less than $2,000.

Cash or surety bonds on the three charges were set totaling $22,000. Paul Charles Hunt remained in the Laurens County Detention Center this morning.
