LDHS… The Laurens Raider baseball and softball teams closed out their regular seasons Friday night hosting the Greenwood Eagles on Senior Night for both teams…

  • Baseball: Greenwood 9 – Laurens 0… The Raider baseball team closed out its season with a 9-0 loss to the Greenwood Eagles being shutout for only the second time this season… The game was scoreless through 4 innings when the Eagles struck for 4 innings and the Raiders just could not muster the offense to reply… The Eagles outhit the Raiders 11-2 with Kobe Williams getting both the Raider hits…  For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-BB-4-20-Gwd  … For the games scorecard, click on the following:LDHS-BB-4-20-Gwd-SC … The Raiders finish their season with an 8-11 overall record and 2-8 in region play.
  • Softball: Laurens 3 – Greenwood 2… The Raider softball team went into Friday night’s game knowing they could not win the region crown for the first time in several years but could finish second or third… To finish second they would have to defeat Greenwood and Hillcrest would have to defeat Mauldin… If either one of those did not happen they would finish third due to the tie-breaking rules the region has in place… Well the Raiders defeated the Eagles 3-2 but Mauldin defeated Hillcrest so the Raiders finished third… The Raiders got their first 2 runs in the 3rd inning when Jillian Sward singled and then stole second… Vanessa Harshaw then singled to put runners on the corners… Harshaw then stole second and as she did Sward came home on a double-steal… On the throw back to the plate in an attempt to get Sward scoring, Harshaw moved to third… A couple of batters later Cassie Plaia brought her home on a sacrifice bunt… The Raiders picked up the winning run in the 6th inning when Plaia walked and stole second… She moved to third on a Greenwood error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Michaela Smith… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LDHS-SB-4-20-18-Gwd… For the games scorecard, click on the following: LDHS-SB-4-20-18-Gwd-SC… Since the Raiders finished third they will open up the playoffs on the road this Thursday… The will travel to nation Ford over in the Rock Hill area… We plan on bringing you that game here on Real Radio 860 and on the internet at www.wlbg.com.
