Sports Report for Wednesday, 4-25-2018

Local Notes:

LDHS… Catching up with a couple of scores from LDHS last week…

  • Golf: Mauldin 161 – Laurens 207… Last Thursday the Raider golf team traveled to Holly Tree CC to take on the Mauldin Mavericks in region play… Wish I had better news for Raider fans but I have to report that Mauldin took a 161 – 207 win over the Raiders… Scores for Laurens: Bailey Goode 47, Collin Harlan 51, Ryan Elledge 54, and Preston Mahon 55.
  • Tennis: Hillcrest 5 – Laurens 2… Last Thursday the Raider tennis team traveled to Hillcrest to take on the Rams and lost to the Rams by a score of 5-2… Andrew Dominick and Will Adams had the two wins for the Raiders…. For more information on this match, click here
  • Soccer… Last Friday the boys’ soccer team traveled to Greenwood and lost to the Eagles by a scorer of 2-0… Sorry no other details available and also no information on how the girls did…. Their coach is not posting the scores.

 

Laurens County Speedway… Checking the results from the main events at the LCS last Saturday night…

  • Thunder Bombers… Dan Lawson picked up his second straight victory as he took the lead late from James Hudson… Troy Bagwell followed in second and Scott Pulley took third.
  • 602 Crate… Jeff Robertson picked up his second win of the season leading from wire to wire… Chris Patterson and Colt Smith were the next two across the finish line.
  • 4 Cylinder… Rod Tucker picked the win here by just over 6 seconds ahead of second place finisher Larry Teal… Tucker never trailed in this race… Bradley Lambert finished third.
  • FWD… Last Saturday must have been the night past winners to win again as last season’s FWD champ Mason Mack took the win by over 3 seconds… That lead was over Joel Cabe who finished second with Andrew Patterson taking third.
  • SECA 604 Crate… Taylor Puckett started on the pole and stayed out front the entire race never really being challenged by Nick Dietz who finished second… Thomas Robinson finished third.
  • Enduro… Once they finally got the main event started, Bruce Barnett picket up the win with Brandon Patterson being the next two across the finish line in that order.
  • Limited… Michael Smith got off to a quick start and shot by Tony Quarles and t went on to take the win holding off Quarles who finished second… Frank Coates took third.

  • Reds 9 – Braves 7 (12)… In case you didn’t stay up late enough to see the end of the game last night, the Braves lost a heartbreaker… The Braves trailed the Reds 7-3 going into the top of the 9th inning… The Braves rallied in the top o the ninth for 4 runs to tie the game 7-7 and send it into extra innings after holding the Reds scoreless in the bottom of the inning… The two teams were scoreless unit; the bottom of the 12th inning when with 1 out and one on the Reds Scooter Gennett hit his second homer of the game to give the Reds the walk off win.
  • Fireflies 5 – Drive 2… The Greenville Drive saw their losing streak go to 10 games as they lost to the Columbia Fireflies 5-2 yesterday afternoon at Flour Field… The two teams will play a doubleheader to makeup Monday’s rained out game starting a 4 pm this afternoon.

  • Laurens County Cancer Association will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 7th… This is their major fund raiser to help the citizens of Laurens County who are battling cancer in a variety of ways… Hole sponsorships are available and the cost for a participating foursome is $800… For more information contact Ann Casey on Tuesday or Thursday at the LCCS office at 833-3976… Her email address is: lccancerassoc@gmail.com… Please come out and help the association as they help your family and friends here in Laurens County.
  • City of Clinton will be holding Rhythm on the Rails Friday and Saturday May 18 & 19th… Rhythm On The Rails is Downtown Clinton’s signature spring festival that includes retail and craft vendors, non-profit information booths, games, rides, lots of great music and BBQ… Go ahead and make plans to come out that weekend.
