Sports Report for Friday, 4-27-2018

  • Softball… The Blue Hose softball team had its final home series of the season rained out this week and the games with SC State will not be made up… The team closes out its regular season on the road this weekend as they travel to Radford to take on the Highlanders in a 3-game series… They will play a single game today at 5 pm and a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 pm… The games can be seen on the Big South Network.
  • Baseball … The PC baseball team was on the road this past Wednesday as they traveled up to Clemson to take on the #8 ranked Tigers… They found the game tougher than the one they had in Columbia the week before against the Gamecocks as the Tigers took a 14-4 win over the Blue Hose… The team is also on the road traveling up to Radford this weekend for a 3-game series with the Highlanders… The first game is scheduled to start at 6 pm tonight… The second game is scheduled for 4 pm tomorrow and the final game Sunday at 2 pm can be seen on the Big South Network.

CHS

  • Tennis: Clinton 6 – Broome 0… The Red Devil boys’ tennis team hosted the Broome Centurions on Wednesday and I just got the score yesterday morning so let me pas on the good news to you…. Clinton won 6-0… If you would like to see match details, click here… The Red Devil’s record stands at 12-3 overall and 9-0 in region play..
  • Softball Postponed Until Today … The Red Devil first round playoff game at Crescent was postponed due to the weather yesterday… The team is now scheduled to take on the Tigers at 6 pm today.

 

LDHS

  • Softball Game Suspended… The Raider softball team traveled to Fort Mill yesterday to open the playoffs against the nation Ford Falcons… The filed was in good shape despite the rains that had been in the area yesterday afternoon… However as the game started so did the rain… By the time the two teams had finished the second inning the infield was on the verge of becoming mud bog so the umpires and coaches stopped the game and they will pick it up today with the Raiders coming to bat in the top of the 3rd inning leading 1-0… The game is scheduled to resume at 6:30… Unfortunately we will NOT be able to bring you the conclusion of the game as I have a long standing commitment tonight… The Raiders and Red Devils are both scheduled to play tomorrow against opponents and at a site to be determined by today’s results… Check our homepage at WLBG.com for the latest on that… I’ll put up a posting their as soon as I know…. Any broadcast tomorrow will be on a “to be determined” basis and if we do I’ll post that up also.

 

Laurens Academy

  • WW King 8 – LA 1… The Crusaders did get their game in yesterday as thy traveled down to Batesburg to take on the Knights of WW King Academy… The Crusaders got on the board first putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning when Wil Tindal singled and moved to second on a single by Cal Robertson… A wild pitch then moved both runners up a base and Tindal scored on a sacrifice bunt by Noah Moore… However that would be the only run scored by the Crusaders as they fell 8-0 to the Knights…  Tindal led the Crusader offense collecting 2 of their 4 hits… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: LA-4-26-WWK … For the games scorecard, click on the following: LA-4-26-WWK-SC

  • Braves 7 – Reds 4…. After dropping the first two games of the 4-game series with the Reds in Cincinnati, the Braves managed a split of the season with their win on Wednesday and a 7-4 win yesterday afternoon… The Braves outhit the Reds 13-6 and rookie Ronald Acuna, Jr. went 3-4 as did Freddie Freeman to lead the Braves and one of Acuna’s was his first career homerun…. The Braves will start a weekend series with the Phillies in Philadelphia
  • Augusta 8 – Drive 7… The Greenville Dive saw their losing streak go to 13 games last night as the Augusta GreenJackets took an 8-7 win at Flour Field… The Drive trailed 7-0 at one point in the game and rallied but they came up just a little short… The Drive remain at home hosting the Charleston RiverDogs this weekend.

  • Laurens County Cancer Association will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 7th… This is their major fund raiser to help the citizens of Laurens County who are battling cancer in a variety of ways… Hole sponsorships are available and the cost for a participating foursome is $800… For more information contact Ann Casey on Tuesday or Thursday at the LCCS office at 833-3976… Her email address is: lccancerassoc@gmail.com… Please come out and help the association as they help your family and friends here in Laurens County.
  • City of Clinton will be holding Rhythm on the Rails Friday and Saturday May 18 & 19th… Rhythm On The Rails is Downtown Clinton’s signature spring festival that includes retail and craft vendors, non-profit information booths, games, rides, lots of great music and BBQ… Go ahead and make plans to come out that weekend.
