Sports Report for Tuesday, 5-1-2018

PC Notes…. For more details on the game(s) below, click on their scores.

  • Softball… The PC softball team concluded its regular season on the road this weekend as they traveled up to Radford, Va. to take on the Radford Highlanders… The news is mixed here for PC fans as Radford won the game on Friday by a score of 2-1 and then took the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday by a score of 2-1 again… The good news is that PC won the second game of the doubleheader by a score of 4-2 to end their regular season on a positive note… The Blue Hose finish the season 4-42.
  • Baseball… The Blue Hose baseball team was also up at Radford this weekend and I hate to report they dropped all 3 games to the Highlanders… On Friday they had a tough 9-8 loss and on Saturday Radford won by a score of 8-4… The teams closed out their series on Sunday with Radford taking a 6-3 win… PC travels to Wofford tomorrow for a 6:00 pm contest with the Terriers.

Local Notes:

CHS

  • Softball: Emerald 3 – Clinton 0… Yesterday the Red Devil softball team traveled to Greenwood to take on the Emerald Vikings in an elimination round softball playoff game… For the second time in the playoff the Red Devils found themselves going up against an ace pitcher and this time it was Emerald’s two time all-state pitcher Lauralee Scott who struck out 8 Red Devils while walking none and gave up only 1… Emerald plated one run in the bottom of the 1st inning and two more in the 5th inning to take the win… The Red Devils only hit was by Grayson Taylor… The loss eliminated the Red Devils from the playoff with a final season record of 12-13… Congratulations to the Red Devils for making the playoffs in a season that when it started a lot of folks would not have predicted that!
  • Soccer: Clinton 2 – Chapman 1… The Red Devil soccer team traveled to Woodruff last Friday to take on the Chapman Panthers in a tie-breaking match for second place in the region… Good news here for Red Devil fans as the team took a 2-1 win over the Panthers to claim second place in the region and with that a home match in the first round of the playoffs… The match was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation Patrick Nelson getting the lone Clinton goal in regulation… Two overtime periods found the score unchanged so the teams went into a penalty kick shoot off which saw the Red Devils make 4 penalty shots to Chapman’s 2 to lift the Red Devils to the win… For more details on this match click here… Now as previously mentioned the team will host a first round playoff match and that will take place today as they host West Oak Warriors at Wilder Stadium tonight at 7:00 pm… Why don’t you make plans to come on out and cheer on the team tonight.
