Sports Report for Wednesday, 5-2-2018

Local Notes:


  • Golf Team Qualifies for Upper-State Tournament… The Red Devil golf team finished 4th in the region tournament at Three Pines in Woodruff Monday and with that finish qualified for the Upper-state Tournament to be held at the Chester Golf Club next Tuesday… Phoebe Carles had the low score for the Red Devils shooting a 77… For a little more information and a photo of the team, click here.


  • Golf Host Region Tournament… Now the Raider golf team was also in action on Monday as they hosted the region tournament out at Lakeside CC… The Raiders finished 6th in the tournament with Bailey Goode shooting a 93 to be the low scorer for the Raiders… For more information on the tournament, click here.


Laurens County Speedway… Taking a look at the winners in each of the divisions main events last Saturday:

  • 602 Thunder… This division payed a visit to the LCS last Saturday and defending champion Lee Gray took the win with Billy Rushton finishing second and Dale Timms third…
  • SECA 604 Crate… Taylor Puckett started in the #4 spot but that is now where he finished as he picked up the win with Dustin Morris finishing second and Goose Calvert third.
  • Limited… Larry Timms established a new track record in qualifying for the Limited Division by completing a lap in 14.734 seconds but the inversion draw flipped him to the outside of row 1 on the start but broke out into the lead anyway and won the race leading wire to wire… Billy Ruston crossed the finish line next and Tony Quarles claimed third.
  • Thunder Bombers… The main event here finished in a green-white-checkered scenario and Casey Lawson held off Dusty Eaves to take the win… Dylan Chappell finished third
  • FWD… Travis Jamieson picked up the win leading from the start… Andrew Patterson won a battle with Shawn Nichols (who was disqualified for intentionally trying to spin out Patterson) for second and Mason Mack took third.
  • 4 Cylinders… Larry Teal took the win here after another green-white-checkered finish due to a late spinout caution… Rod Tucker finished second.
  • Enduro… Bruce Barnett won the event pulling away from the rest of the field with Brandon Patterson and Jake Barnett being the next two across the finish line in that order.

Braves 3 – Mets 2… The Braves started a 3-game series with the Mets in N.Y. last and they scored 3 runs in the first inning and made them hold up as they took a 3-2 win over the Mets.

Delmarva 7 – Drive 1… The Greenville Drive were up in Maryland last night starting a series with the Delmarva Shorebirds… The Drive managed only 3 hits as they fell to the Shorebirds 7-1.

  • Laurens County Cancer Association will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 7th… This is their major fund raiser to help the citizens of Laurens County who are battling cancer in a variety of ways… Hole sponsorships are available and the cost for a participating foursome is $800… For more information contact Ann Casey on Tuesday or Thursday at the LCCS office at 833-3976… Her email address is:… Please come out and help the association as they help your family and friends here in Laurens County.
  • City of Clinton will be holding Rhythm on the Rails Friday and Saturday May 18 & 19th… Rhythm On The Rails is Downtown Clinton’s signature spring festival that includes retail and craft vendors, non-profit information booths, games, rides, lots of great music and BBQ… Go ahead and make plans to come out that weekend.
