  • Baseball: Wofford 9 – PC 8… Back on Wednesday night the PC baseball team traveled up I-26 to take on the Wofford Terriers… The Blue Hose lost a tough one as Wofford rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to take a 9-8 win over the Blue Hose… The Blue Hose are in the middle of exams and will not be back in action until next Wednesday when they travel to Davidson.
  • Softball…As you may recall, the Blue Hose softball team finished their season last Saturday with a win but the overall season record was a disappointing 4-42… Well this past Monday PC Athletic Director Danny Sterling announced that PC head softball coach Britne Stubbs had resigned effective immediately… She was an assistant coach during the 2014 season and became the head coach 2015… For more on this story and more information about Coach Stubbs, click here.

CHS

Tennis: Clinton 6 – Southside 0… Yesterday the CHS boys’ tennis team hosted Southside in the second round of the Class-AAA playoffs at home… Good news as the Red Devils took a 6-0 win over the Tigers… Now I do not have match details at this time put I will pass them on when I get them… The Red Devils will be back in Monday at home against a team to be determined by other matches yesterday.

Track Teams Headed to Upper State This Weekend… Members of the CHS girls & boys track teams will be headed to Broome HS tomorrow to take part in the Upper State Track Meet trying to punch their ticket the State meet in Columbia… last week the girls team won the region meet and have several of their members headed to Broome tomorrow…The boys team finished sixth in the region meet and they also have several members making the trip tomorrow… If you would like to see more information as to which members of both teams will be participating tomorrow click on the following: Clinton High School Track 2018Region Meet Results … Good luck to them and Go Big red!

 

LDHS

  • Cruz Signs with USC-Union… Yesterday afternoon at LDHS senior soccer player Jairo Cruz signed a letter of intent to continue his education and soccer career at USC-Union playing for the Bantams… Jairo has played multiple positions for the Raiders including the all-important position of goal keeper… At this time he is undecided about his major and is concentrating on finishing out his senior year and condition to get ready for next fall… Congratulations to Jairo !Photo courtesy of Justin Heisey.
  • Track Teams Headed to Upper State This Weekend… The Raider track team also participated in their region track meet last week at Byrnes HS… Several of the Raiders dis well enough in the meet to qualify for the 5-A Qualifier tomorrow down at Spring Valley in Columbia… Time does not permit me to mention all of them to you but if you click on the following you will find out which male and female athletes will make the trip to Columbia tomorrow and hopefully do well enough to go back next Saturday for the State Meet: Raiders Track Who Shinned at Region II Meet… Good Luck to the Raiders…

  • Braves 11 – Mets 0… The Braves concluded their series with the Mets in New York yesterday with an 11-0 win thus sweeping the 3-game series from the Mets… The Braves scored 3 runs in the first and that would be all they needed as Julio Teheran carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning before giving up 2 hits there… Kurt Suzuki, Ronald Acuna Jr., Nick Markakis and Ozzie Albies all had homers for the Braves… The Braves return home for a 3-game series with the Giants this weekend.
  • Delmarva 9 – Drive 8… The Greenville Drive came close to winning a game last night as they fell to the Delmarva Shor Birds 98- in 111 innings… The Drive battled back to tie the game 6-6 by scoring a run in the top of the 9th inning… Both teams then scored a single run  in the 10th inning and Greenville scored a single run in the top of the 11th to go up 8-7… However Delmarva platted 2 in the bottom of the inning to take the win and sweep the the Drive… The Drive will be playing in Greensboro the next 4 days.

  • Laurens County Cancer Association will hold its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 7th at Musgrove Mill CC… This is their major fund raiser to help the citizens of Laurens County who are battling cancer in a variety of ways… Hole sponsorships are available and the cost for a participating foursome is $800… For more information contact Ann Casey on Tuesday or Thursday at the LCCS office at 833-3976… Her email address is: lccancerassoc@gmail.com… Please come out and help the association as they help your family and friends here in Laurens County.
  • City of Clinton will be holding Rhythm on the Rails Friday and Saturday May 18 & 19th… Rhythm On The Rails is Downtown Clinton’s signature spring festival that includes retail and craft vendors, non-profit information booths, games, rides, lots of great music and BBQ… Go ahead and make plans to come out that weekend.
