  • Tennis: Clinton 6 – Southside 0… Last Friday morning I told you that the Red Devil tennis team took a 6-0 win Thursday afternoon over the Southside Tigers in Class-AAA playoff action but that I did not have any details… I can now tell you that Isaac Mac Millan, Ike Waldron, Tyler Trevino and Conner Donley all took wins in singles action on the court against their opponents… Anders Orr also won by default… The #2 doubles team of Alexander Windsor and Kyler Simmons also won by default… Now for more information on this match, click here… With the win the Red Devils advanced to round 3 of the playoff and that match will be held today at the Red Devil tennis courts at CMS… Their opponent will be West Oak and the match is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm… It goes without saying that Coach Simmons and the team would love to have a large number of Red Devils fans there to cheer them on as they try to punch their ticket to the upper state finals this Wednesday that they would host if they win…. Go Big Red

Pros …Click on the scores of the following for more information about the contest.

Braves…. The Braves hosted the San Francisco Giants at Sun Tryst Park over the weekend…. They came into the game with a five-game winning streak leading the NL East and not having been swept in any series so far this season.

  • Friday: Giants 9 – Braves 4… The Braves scored first putting 2 runs on the board in the first inning but the Giants responded by plating 6 runs in the top of the second and then went on to take a 9-4 win over the Braves… The Giants outhit the Braves 13-8 and both Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis homered for the Braves.
  • Saturday: Giants 11 – Braves 2… On Saturday it was pretty much the same as the Giants outhit the Braves 18-7 and took an 11-2 win over the Bravos… Nick Markakis led the Braves going 3-4 at the plate.
  • Sunday: Giants 4 – Braves 3… Yesterday the Braves bats were more alive as the Giants only outhit them 10-9 but the Braves found themselves trailing 4-1 going into the bottom of the 9th inning… The Braves did rally and plate 2 runs and had the tying run on third with two out but just could not get it in as they fell 4-3 to the Giants thus being swept in a series for the first time this season… The Braves have the night off and will be back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Tampa to take on the Rays.

Greenville Drive… The Greenville drive were in Greensboro starting a 4-game series with the Grasshoppers last Friday night and this series of games may have a little more than normal interest to sports fans in our area as former LDHS Raider Thomas Jones is playing for the Grasshoppers since last Wednesday…

  • Friday: Greensboro 9 – Greenville 8… On Friday the two teams played just about even with both getting 11 hits but the Grasshoppers scored a single run in the bottom of the 9th inning to take a 9-8 win over the Drive… Thomas Jones started the game in centerfield for the Grasshoppers and went 2-4 with one of his hits being a solo homer in the 6th inning… That was his 4th homer since being called up last week.
  • Saturday: Drive 2 – Greensboro 1… On Saturday it was more of a pitchers’ duel that the Drive won by a score of 2-1… In that game Thomas went 0-4 from the leadoff spot.
  • Sunday: Drive 10 – Greensboro 2…  Yesterday the Drive did something they have not done since the first two games of the season, they won back to back games as they defeated the Grasshoppers 10-2… The Drive only led 4-2 going into the top of the 9th inning when they exploded for 10 runs… Thomas Jones did a little better than Saturday as he went 1-4 getting one of the Grasshoppers 6 hits… The two teams will complete their 4-game series this morning with a game that is scheduled to start at 10:45 am.
