Local Notes:

CHS

  • Clinton 6 – Camden 0… Congratulations to the Red Devil boys’ tennis team as they punched their ticked to the state championship match this Saturday by defeating the Camden Bulldogs 6-0 last night in Clinton… The Red Devils took wins in all the singles matches and in the #2 doubles match… They did not play the #1 doubles match… The Red Devils will face the winner of the Bishop England vs. Hanahan match this Saturday at the Cayce Tennis Center with the first volley scheduled to start at noon… Good luck to the Red Devils.

 

College Notes:

  • DI Baseball Poll… Earlier this week the latest DI Baseball Poll came out and the top 3 teams remained the same, Florida, Stanford & Oregon State hold down those spots in that order… North Carolina jumped from 6th to 4th and NC State went from 8th to 5th…. Spots 6-10 are held by Ole Miss, Arkansas, Clemson, Southern Miss and east Carolina in that order… Coastal Carolina dropped from #18 to #25…. To see the entirety of the poll click here.
  • USA Today/NFCA Coaches Softball Poll… Giving equal time to the ladies, the latest D-I Softball Poll is unchanged in the top 4 spots… UCLA, Oregon, Oklahoma and Florida hold down those spots in that order… Washington went from 6th to 5th and Arizona went from 8th to 6th… Spots 7-10 are held by Tennessee, Georgia, Arizona and Florida State… South Carolina holds down the same spot they held in the previous poll and that is #12… To see the entire top 25 softball poll, click here.

  • Braves 5 – Rays 2… The Atlanta Braves scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning in route to a 5-2 win over the Tampa bay Rays down in Florida last night… Nick Markakis picked up his 7th homerun of the season a three-run blast during the 3rd inning when the Braves put 4 runs on the board… Julio Teheran picked up the win pitching 6 scoreless innings striking out 7 and walking none.
  • Kannapolis 10 – Drive 2… The Kannapolis Intimidators scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning and then went on to take a 10-2 win over the Greenville Drive last night at Flour Field.

  • Laurens Sings… The City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department and GoLaurens will be holding auditions for the second season of Laurens Sings tomorrow night at 6 pm and Saturday morning at 10 am at The Ridge at Laurens the Parks and Recreations headquarters complex… Those auditioning will be asked to sing a one-minute a cappella version of their favorite song.. Judges will select 15 finalists who will be announced Monday, May 21st… For more about how Laurens Sings will be done and contact information, click here.
  • City of Clinton will be holding Rhythm on the Rails Friday and Saturday May 18 & 19th… Rhythm On The Rails is Downtown Clinton’s signature spring festival that includes retail and craft vendors, non-profit information booths, games, rides, lots of great music and BBQ…For more information go to www.rotrclintonsc.com… Go ahead and make plans to come out that weekend.
  • Battle Mud May 19thThis year’s Battle Mud Run is coming up on Saturday May 19th rain or shine… This event is put on by the Laurens Family YMCA, Main Street Laurens and the Greenville Health System, Laurens County Memorial Hospital… The cost is $60 per two-person team… You can register at the Laurens YMCA or online at www.active.com
