Baseball Awards… Last night the Raider baseball team held an ice cream social where end of season awards were handed out by Coach Patterson and his staff.

  • JV Awards: Most Improved: Garrett Addy & Austin McNuer… MVP: Garrett Parker… Academic Award: Austin McNuer
  • Varsity Awards: Most Improved: Tanner Smith & Luke Willis…. Coaches Award: Ty Foster & Matthew McGowan… Academic Achievement: Nate Towles… Golden Glove Award: Layton Mahon…. Silver Slugger Award: Nathan Rutter with .340 avg.
  • All-Region Team: Jalen Bragg & Nathan Rutter

 

 

College Notes

  • D-I Softball… The Women’s College World Series Regionals were completed this past weekend and for the most part the top seed in each regional advanced to the super regionals coming up this weekend… The #9 seeded South Carolina Gamecocks had a little bit of the scare but they won their regional in Columbia… They defeated UNC-G 3-0 but then lost to Liberty 3-1… Dropping into the loser’s bracket they defeated Hofstra 5-4 and then had to beat Liberty twice to advance… They did as they took 2-0 and 5-0 win over the Flames to advance… The will travel out to Tempe, Arizona to take on Arizona State in the best of 3 super regional starting Friday… To see the entire interactive softball bracket, click here.
  • SEC Baseball Tournament… The SEC Baseball Tournament opened up yesterday out in Hover, Al yesterday with 4 single elimination games… The last one involved the gamecocks and good news as they defeated Missouri 4-2… They advance into the double-elimination portion of the tournament which starts today and will play Arkansas tonight at about 9:00 pm… All tournament games can be seen on the SEC Network… To see the entire tournament bracket, click here.
  • ACC Baseball Tournament… The ACC Baseball Tournament also kicked off yesterday with 3 games none of which involved Clemson… The Tigers start their participation today as they take on Notre Dame at 3:00 pm… If you want to see the entire tournament schedule and results, click here… That will carry you to the ACC’s posting for the tournament and you will have to scroll down some to see the schedule.
  • Southern Conference Baseball Tournament… The Southern Conference Baseball Tournament started at Flour Field yesterday with one game and Bill Baldwin most likely will not be pleased with the results as Western Carolina defeated the Citadel 6-5 in a “play-in” game… If you would like to see the entire tournament schedule clicks here then scroll down some.

  • Braves 3 – Phillies 1… After dropping the first game of the their 3-game series with the Phillies on Monday, the Braves rebounded to take a 3-1 win over the Phillies in Philadelphia last night…. Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies had a lot to do with the Braves win as he went 2 for 4 with one of his hits being a solo homer in the third inning giving him 14 homers on the season…. He also scored all 3 of the Braves runs.
  • Ashville 5 – Drive 3… As has been the case many times this season, the Greenville Drive took an early lead over their opponent but could not hold it as they lost to the Ashville Tourist 5-3 last night up in Ashville… The Drive led 2-0 after 4.4 innings of play when the Tourist started their comeback and win.

  • Raider Youth Football Camp 2018… On Thursday, June 7th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm the Laurens Raider football staff will be conducting a youth football camp at KC Hanna Field… The camp is open to rising 2nd – 8th graders and it is always a lot of fun for the youth as the Raider staff has age appropriate football related activities… The cost is only $20 and you register the day of the camp between the hours of 8:00 – 9:00 am…By the way that cost includes launch…  If you have any questions contact either Coach Sentell Peake or Coach Brian Lothridge….
