Local Notes:

Laurens County Speedway… Checking the results in the each division’s main event last Saturday night at the LCS you find:

  • Late Model… Larry Timms had the fastest car in the qualifying for the Late Model Division and that carried over to the main event as he took the win holding off Drew Collins who finished second and Tony Quarles took third… The others tried to catch him but he won by just over 2 seconds.
  • 604 Crate… In the 604 Crate main event, Dale Timms had the fastest qualifying time and he also used that to jump out to the lead in the main event and led wire to wire…. He won by just over ¾ of a second ahead of Taylor Puckett who finished second with Deano long coming in third.
  • Thunder Bombers… In the Thunder Bombers, Scott Pulley held off Dusty Eaves who finished second… The battle for third place was won by Dylan Chappell.
  • 4 Cylinders… Rod Tucker took the win in the 4 Cylinder Division main event… The battle for second was more intense as Larry Teal edged out Travis Sharpe who took third.
  • 602 Crate… The 602 Crate main event saw defending champion Chris Patterson take the win leading from start to finish in a caution-free race… The next two across the finish line were Mac Owens and Colt Smith.
  • FWD… In the FWD Division main event Joel Cabe got a great start to jump in front of pole-sitting Jason Bishop and then Bishop had to fight off other drivers to take second… Reid Neiderhiser finished third.
  • Enduro… In the Enduro main event it looked like Shane Roberts was going to take the win but mechanical problems forced him to the pits putting Eric Caughorn in the lead and eventually taking the checkered flag… Brandon Patterson was second and Robbie Hartman was third

Pros …Click on the scores of the following for more information about the contest.

  • Braves 8 – Mets 2… The Atlanta Braves returned home last night to start a short 2-game series with the New York Mets… The Braves trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the 6th inning but by the time it was over they led 7-2 as Ozzie Albies hit a grand slam homerun (16) and Freddie Freeman hit a solo shot (13) in the inning to deliver the knockout punch the Mets could not answer… The Braves added an insurance run in the 7th inning when Nick Markakis had an RBI double driving in Freddie Freeman…. Markakis led Braves at the plate getting 3 of the Braves 10 hits in the game.
  • Rome 10 – Greenville 4… In the second game of their 5-game series with the Rome Braves at Flour Field last night, the Greenville Drive lost to the Baby Braves by a score of 10-4… Rome scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning and then added 3 more in the 3rd to take a 7-0 lead before the Drive finally plated a single run in the 6th inning… That must have made the baby Braves mad as they scored 3 in the top of the 7th to go up 10-1… The Drive tried to come back scoring 3 runs in the 8th inning making it 10-4 but could get no closer… Rome pounded out 18 hits in the game including 2 homeruns while the Drive managed just 6 hits… The teams will play a doubleheader today with the first game slated to start at 5:00 pm.
