One Dead After Car Struck Tractor

A Laurens area man was killed just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon when the tractor he was driving was struck by a car. South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Gary Miller said the Kubota tractor was east-bound on Highway 308 north of Laurens near Fleming Mill Road when an east-bound 1997 Mercury 4-door sedan struck it in the rear, causing it to overturn. He said the tractor operator was thrown from the tractor was thrown off with the impact.

Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek identified the tractor operator as 29-year-old Wesley Chad Robinson of Fieldcrest Drive, Laurens. Mrs. Cheeks said that Robinson died of blunt force trauma to his chest at 2:05 pm.

Trooper Miller identified the driver and only occupant of the car as 34-year-old Tara Ann Mahan of Fountain Inn. He said she has been charged with Felony DUI with Death, with Driving under Suspension of her license and with Simple Possession of Marijuana. After being taken to the GHS Laurens County Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries, Ms. Mahon was taken to the Laurens County Detention Center. Early this morning during our check there, she was still awaiting the booking process.
