Presbyterian College Notes: Please see the note in the This and That section below about a soccer camp starting at PC this Friday.

Local Notes:

Clinton Dixie Youth All-Star Teams… The Clinton YMCA Dixie Youth program has some all-star teams in action in District 3 Tournaments so let’s do some catching up with them.

  • Class AA, 7-8 Machine Pitch… This age group is in a 6-team double elimination tournament at Batesburg-Leesville… They opened play last Friday with a 7-2 win over Edgefield County… On Saturday they lost a close one to Saluda by a single run 22-21 to drop them into the losers’ bracket… They were scheduled to play Saluda again last night but as of the time I recorded this I have been unable to get those results…. Hopefully I can get those for you by tomorrow.
  • Class AAA. 9-10…. This age group is also playing in an 8 team double elimination tournament at Batesburg-Leesville… In their first game on Friday they took an 8-3 win over Abbeville…. Their next game saw them take on the Star-Iva team on Saturday and they lost the game 13-10 dropping them into the losers’ bracket… On Sunday they managed to stay alive by taking a 17-7 win over Saluda… They also were scheduled to play last Star-Iva night and again I don’t have those results but hopefully I will by tomorrow.
  • O-Zone All-Stars, 11-12… The Clinton O-Zone team is one of 7 teams playing in the district tournament in Edgefield… They opened up their tournament action last Friday afternoon taking on the Star-Iva team… Good news her also as they took a 12-2 win in 5 innings… Clinton had 11 hits while two Clinton pitchers gave up just 1 hit…. Caleb Taylor led the team going 2-2 with a homer and scoring 3 times as well as driving in 3 runs… They were back in action Saturday evening and once again they won as they defeated Saluda 7-2… Jy Leake and Kayson Copeland each had 2 of the team’s 6 hits… The team returned to action Sunday evening and ran their tournament record to 3-0 as they defeated Edgefield 10-1… They held Edgefield scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning when Edgefield plated their only run to avoid the shutout…. Bryce Young led the team at the plate as he had 3 of Clinton’s 11 hits driving in 4 runs… The team was scheduled to play Mid-Carolina last night but once again I do not have those results and again I hope to have them tomorrow.

College World Series Notes  Mother Nature decided last night that both Arkansas and Oregon State needed another day of rest before they started their best of 3 series for the National Championship as bad weather forced the game to be canceled last night… They will attempt to get the first game in tonight at 7 pm.

Pros …Click on the scores of the following for more information about the contest.

  • Braves 5 – Reds 4 (11)… Well in case you did not stay up to see the end of the Braves vs. Reds game in Atlanta you missed a heck of a finish as the Braves defeated the Reds 5-4 in 11 innings… Just before the Braves’ Ozzie Albies stepped up to the plate to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning, he told his teammate Danny Santana “It’s time to go long now.”… Well that is exactly what he did as he hit the first pitch over the centerfield fence to give the Braves the walk-off win…. Be sure to click on the highlighted score at the start for more details.
