Local Notes:

Clinton Dixie Youth All-Star Teams

  • AA 8-9 All-Star: Saluda 14 – Clinton 10… Clinton 7-8 AA machine pitch All-Stars played Saluda Monday in an elimination game… This was the 2nd time the two teams had faced off and Saluda won the 1st meeting 22-21… Clinton was down 3-1 after first inning and both teams went scoreless in the 2nd mainly due to both teams having some great defensive plays in the inning…  In the bottom of the 3rd Saluda was able to plate 4 making the score 7-1…  Clinton was able to score 5 in the 4th with the help of a home run by Will Corley…   In the bottom of the 4th Clinton was able to get the 1st two batters out but Saluda was able to score 6 runs before Clinton got the 3rd out… Going into the top of the 6th Clinton was down 14-6 and rallied to score 4 runs but just could not get any closer as Saluda took the 14-10 win eliminating Clinton from the tournament… According to Coach Dale McWaters Clinton hit the ball hard but Saluda just made plays when it counted…. To their credit, Clinton never quit and the kids battled every game….  They got down in both games and battled back in each of them but just could not come all the way back…   Coach McWaters said he and the other coaches are very proud of the kids… Batting leaders for the game were Grayson Gansz, Ryan Campbell, Cade Lyda, Taryn (Bubba) Underwood, William Addison, Corbin Kimberlin and Will Corley all having two hits each… Alex Cornelio and Wilkes McWaters each had one hit…. Congratulations to the team on a fine showing in the tournament!
  • O-Zone All-Stars… The Clinton O-Zone All-Stars got within 3 outs of getting their game in last night with Mid-Carolina before the weather caused them to suspend the game… The game will be resumed this afternoon (weather permitting) with Clinton leading 6-1… If they get the 3 outs they need to end the game with a win they will take a short break and then play Edgefield… Edgefield would have to beat Clinton twice tonight to advance to the state… Should Mid-Carolina come back and win the suspended game there will be a draw for a bye in the finals and it gets too complicated to explain here… Good Luck to Clinton tonight!
  • AAA All-Stars… I did not get any word from Coach Campbell about their game last night… I’ll try to find out if they played and if so how it came out today.
