Sports Report for Thursday, 6-28-2018

Local Notes:

Clinton All-Star Teams… Well the weather once again caused problems in the District 3 Tournaments so let me tell you what I know.

  • Minors 9-10 All-Stars… As you may recall their game with the Starr-Iva team was suspended a couple of nights ago with Clinton leading 5-2… Well they moved the game site to Abbeville last night and were only able to get in a half an inning before rain and lightning stopped the game again… Clinton did score another run and now leads 6-2 and they hope to finish the game in tonight again in Abbeville starting at 6 pm.
  • O-Zone All-Stars… The Clinton O-Zone All-Stars were able to finish their game with Mid-Carolina last night that had been suspended due to weather from the night before… Good news here as they defeated Mid-Carolina 6-1 to remain the only undefeated team in the tournament… Shortly after they defeated Mid-Carolina they started a game with Edgefield that if they won would make Clinton the District Champion… They were able to play 5.5 innings of the game and Edgefield led 4-3 going into the bottom of the 6th inning where Clinton had one last chance to pull the game out…. The leadoff batter for Clinton singled and then stole second and that is as far as they got as rain and lightning forced the game to be suspended… After about an hour and a half rain delay it was decided to come back and finish the game tonight starting at 6 pm… Should Clinton come back and win, they claim the district title… should they loose and winner take all game between the two teams will take place shortly after the conclusion (weather permitting) suspended game…. Good luck to both Clinton teams!

  • Oregon State 5 – Arkansas 3… The Beavers of Oregon State took an exciting and improbable 5-3 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks to force a winner take all game 3 in the CWS finals last night out in Omaha.. The Razorbacks led 3-2 going into the top of the 9th inning and had the Beavers down to their last out with a man on third when the Oregon State batter hit a pop-up in foul territory on the right side of the infield that the right fielder, second baseman and first baseman all had a shot at to end the game and give the razorbacks the championship but in what looked like a little bit of confusion it fell harmlessly to the ground for a foul ball… On the next pitch the Beaver batter singled driving in the tying run… The next batter homered putting the Beavers up by the final score of 5-3 as they held the Razorbacks scoreless in the bottom of the 9th…. Game 3 will start tonight at 5:50 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN2
