Local Notes:

Clinton All-Star Team Updates…

  • O-Zone All-Stars…. Yesterday I told you that the Clinton O-Zone team played 5.5 inning of a game against Edgefield on Wednesday night and were trailing 4-3 with a man on second when lightning and rain caused the game to be suspended….. Well they traveled back last night to complete the game and it only took 2 pitches to complete… Clinton’s Caleb Taylor took the first pitch for a strike and then belted the second pitch over the left field fence to give Clinton a walk-off win and punch their ticket to the State Tournament as the Region 3 Champions.
  • Minors 9-10 All-Stars… Also you may recall from yesterday that the 9-10 Minors All-Stars had their game with Star-Iva suspended Wednesday night leading 5-2 about halfway through the game… Good news here as they also were able to finish their game and take a 9-7 win…. Garrett Satterfield led the team at the plate going 3-3 with a double and scoring a run… He was also one of the three pitchers that combined to take the win… Talan Campbell and Zak Lawson were the other two pitchers… That leaves three teams with one loss each in the tournament and they held a draw for the bye in the final two games… Unfortunately Clinton did not win that bye and will have to face Abbeville today at 6 pm (at Abbeville I believe) and the winner of that game will play Star-Iva at 8pm for the District Championship… Good luck to Clinton!

Laurens Little Majors Host Region Tournament

  • The Laurens Little League Majors All-Star team will host the district tournament starting tonight and the only team in the tournament besides them is the Greenwood team…. They will play a best of three series with the first game tonight at the Laurens City Parks starting at 7:00 pm… The second game is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00 am… Good Luck to the future Raiders!

College World Series Notes… Click on the score(s) of the following for more information about the contest.

  • Oregon State 5 – Arkansas 0… last night out in Omaha the Oregon State Beavers did something that is rarely done, they lost the first game in the best of three series for the CWS Championship and then came back to win two games to take the championship… The big key to this game was that the Beavers’ freshman pitcher got the complete game win allowing only 2 hits while striking out 10 and walking only 2.

Pros …Click on the scores of the following for more information about the contest.

  • Braves… The Braves were off last night and start a 9-day road trip with the first stop being in St. Louis tonight to start a 3-game series with the Cardinals.

  • Drive… The Drive were in Augusta last night finishing up a game that started on Wednesday and was suspended due to rain and lightning and then they played the regularly scheduled game… In the suspended game, the GreenJackets took a 6-5 win by outhitting the Drive 12-5…. Now the news is better for Drive fans where the regularly scheduled game is concerned as the Drive took a 5-3 win despite being outhit by the GreenJackets 6-5…. The teams will finish their series in Augusta tonight then trey Drive come home tomorrow night to start a series with the Charleston RiverDogs.
